we have 1 UPT now, my suggestion is:
footed ranged units like arches and crossbow should have range of 1 tile (like slingers)...
and be allowed as 2nd footed combat unit on a tile...
When a tile with the 2 footed units get attacked
- the melee defends vs melee unit
- damage caused be ranged unit is spread evenly btw the 2 units
2 units per tile... melee+ranged/support
so you would have a melee unit and you can decide:
support or ranged unit can accomapny this melee unit...
and:
ranged unit cannot completely kill a unit, some HP remains...
kill must be finished/done by melee unit
thngs like catapult, cannon, arty would have long range (2 tiles)
but cannot be part of 2 unit combo and
after move must be set up and can attack only next turn
also cannot completely kill unit
