All units in the game have one unit technology permit or one unit construction permit attached to them, which dictates whether or not a civilizaiton can build or heal that unit

- For most units of the game, the unit technology permit is unlocked only by technology, it works the same way as earlier civ entries

- For most non-combat units of the game, the unit technology permit will not expire

- For most combat units of the game, the unit technology permit will only expire if you get a unit technology permit of its upgrade through technology unlock

- If the unit technology permit expires, you cannot heal that kind of unit. After ten turns, its combat strenght and overall HP will decay by one per turn, until it is 85% of the original combat strenght and HP.

- However, you can use the option "cannibalise" to heal +10 HP to every other unit of the same type on the map, provided they were built in the same city



Starting with the Exploration Era, certain military units are not built by merely having researched the technology associated with them, you also have to build one unit construction permit project in your cities. Upon completion, the unit construction permit project will also grant one copy of that unit

- Starting at the modern era, the unit construction permit project becomes avaliable again if the unit construction permit expires

- Starting at the modern era, unit construction permits lasts 50 turns. The permit can be renewable for max of 30 turns if you build the same unit in any of your cities.

- If you build the unit construction permit project in the same city which the same project was built before, you get a 40% production discount . You can consume a copy of that unit or a relic of the same unit with the option "reverse engineer" to get another one-time 40% production discount

- The option "cannibalise" for units which require a unit construction permit project will also grant one relic of that unit type

- That relic can be stored into a castle or museum with one free slot, if you use the option "cannibalise" within the borders of that city

- Cannot have more than one unit relic of each unit type

- Once the unit construction permit project is built again, units whose combat strenght and overall HP have decayed, can have its original status restored with the option "refurbishment"

- A refurbished unit can be sent to combat like any other unit, or it can be consumed and turned into a relic, providing an one-time temporary culture bonus for ten turns

- The relic of a refurbished unit can be consumed for an one-time 90% production discount of that unit

- Spies can be sent to investigate unit relics from other civilisations, scattered on the map or stored in museums, those grant an one-time 40% production discount if it's the first time you're building the unit construction permit

- If the unit relics are underwater, a submarine unit class needs to be assigned for the spying mission

- If the unit relics are in a land tile but not in a district, a scout unit class needs to be assigned for the spying mission
 
Below are the list of units which require a unit construction permit


Exploration era:

Dismountable trebuchet project: Unlocks the construction of dismountable trebuchet and one dismountable trebuchet . Can move three tiles per turn. Requires one turn to be set-up into a trebuchet. Cannot move after one siege attack . Will automatically be destroyed once trebuchets become an obsolete unit

Large siege cannon project: Grants one large siege cannon. Can only move one tile per turn . Cannot move after one siege attack. Will automatically be destroyed with the transition to the Modern era and turned into relic, if placed on a city with a castle

Large galleon project: Requires the chopping of one unimproved forest tile within city borders . Grants one large galleon. Higher combat strenght than galleon . Cannot heal. Will automatically sink and turn into an underwater relic with the transition to the Modern era.

Modern era:

Manhattan Project: Unlocks the construction of the atomic bomb, it unlocks the ICBM project. Requires one bomber unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project and which will be loaded with one atomic bomb

ICBM project: Unlocks the construction of ICBMs and mobile ICBM launcher land units

Strategic Defense Initiative: It unlocks the construction of tactical anti-aircraft missile units and anti-ballistic missile units. Requires one unit or silo, loaded with one ICBM, to be assigned for the project

Long-range missiles project: It unlocks the construction of a mobile missile launcher units, and the construction of three kinds of tactical missile units . The first is designed to hit land-based units, the second to hit non-stealth naval units and the third to to hit city infrastructures . Grants one mobile missile launcher loaded with the third type of tactical missile. It unlocks the supersonic missile project.

Supersonic missiles project: It unlocks the construction of two kinds of supersonic missile units, the first is designed to hit land-based units, the second to hit non-stealth naval units. It unlocks the hypersonic missile project . Requires one fighter jet mk.3 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project and which will be loaded with the second type of supersonic missile

Hypersonic missiles project: It unlocks the construction of two kinds of hypersonic missile units, the first is designed to hit land-based units, the second to hit non-stealth naval units. Requires one fighter jet mk.3 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project, and which will be loaded with the second type of hypersonic missile

Third generation fighter jets project: It unlocks the construction of fighter jet mk.3 and aerial radar station plane units, unlocks fourth generation fighter jet building option . Requires one fighter jet mk.2 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Fourth generation fighter jets project: It unlocks the construction of fighter jet mk.4 and stealth bomber units, unlocks fifth generation fighter jet building option. Requires one fighter jet mk.3 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Fifth generation fighter jets project: It unlocks the construction of fighter jet mk.5 units, unlocks sixth generation fighter jet building option. Requires one fighter jet mk.4 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Sixth generation fighter jets project: It unlocks the construction of fighter jet mk.6 units. Requires one fighter jet mk.5 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Second generation air defense project: It unlocks the construction of Mobile SAM mk.2, and mobile radar stations unit unlocks third generation air defense building option . Requires one mobile SAM mk.1 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Third generation air defense project It unlocks the construction of Mobile SAM mk3. and mobile satellite jammer land units, unlocks fourth generation air defense building option. Requires one mobile SAM mk.1 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Fouth generation air defense project (It unlocks the construction of Mobile SAM mk4. Requires one mobile SAM mk.1 unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project

Nuclear submarine project: It unlocks the construction of nuclear submarine units . Requires one submarine unit within city borders, which will be assigned for the project
