I conquered 3 of greeks about 12 cities and they still won't grant me peace on my terms. Oh well, on to their capital I suppose?
And secondly, are there cheat codes, if so what are there?

the AI can be very stubborn. It usually won't respond to envoys until you've taken all but two or three cities from it, or if the war lasts over many many turns. If war weariness takes effect in the AI's empire it'll usually agree to peace.
Sorry, but there is no cheat mode. I read an interview with Sid Meier, and he said that was one of the things they took out of the game. Bummer huh?
I always enjoyed enabling cheat mode once in awhile in Civ II. Getting tanks and stealth fighters while everyone else had chariots was a great stress reliever!

"do or do not, there is no try."

The lack of a Cheat Mode is yet another problem I have with this game.

Care to deign to explain WHY this was left out, Sid, and if you plan to do something about it - which is what the buying public wants?

I got the peace on my terms after I took the greeks captial. However, I only made peace because warweariness, as soon as the cities I captured become more romanized, the war shall start again.

Also, I really liked the cheat mode for several reasons, one was i could use it to keep other nations and myself in ancient times (I thought advancements came too fast)

2) I liked the fact that you could set all sorts of barbarians up and huge enemy armies like historic battles and invasions.

Thanks

The Cheat Mode also allowed me to switch to Barbarian map and No Human Player mode, and just run the game a few dozen turns into the future, and then go back to whichever side I wanted.

I could play out scenarios that way by using No Human Player.

Big mistake to exclude it.

And yes, the AI can be stubborn, but that issue is one of my smaller compaints with Civ III (see other posts).
