I open this thread with the intention of probing the interest of an official ;) Civilization Fanatics Center fantasy football league for the 2004 season.

There would be no $$ involved. It would simply be for bragging rights and the opportunity to talk some smack and get hyped for the best sport on this planet!! (Sorry :hatsoff: to our European friends!)

I could arrange to set up a free league with a website that could host such a league. I have 10 yrs of commissioner's experience w/ my own big-time league that I run.

A draft could be done on-line and everything would be completely formatted.

What do you say? Have you got the skillz to win it all and be crowned the CFC Fantasy Football champion?

I don't know &*%$ about NFL players, but I'll join. :)

I'm typically in 3-4 NFL fantasy leagues every year. If one of them falls through this year, I would be willing to join if it was a head to head league.

If you explained the rules carefully and in lots of detail I might be able to play.

well, if you're familiar w/ how fantasy football works then here's a snapshot:

all teams in the league would have around 15 or 16 players on their team.

~2 QBs 2 Kickers
~4 RBs 2 Defenses (entire team defense)
~4 WRs
~2 TEs

Of those players, each team would start/activate each of the following for each week of the NFL season:

1 QB ~~ 2 RBs ~~ 2 WRs ~~ 1 TE ~~ 1 Kicker ~~ 1 Defense

Points are accumulated (or subtracted for fumbles lost, interceptions thrown, field goals missed) by each player for the following statistical catergories (if applicable):

~Touchdowns scored
~Total yards passing
~Total yards rushing
~Total yards receiving
~Feild Goals & extra points
~turnovers forced; ie interceptions and fumble recoveries (all by defense)

a schedule would be drawn up (assigned by most websites that host a league) pitting each of the teams in the Civ Fanatics Center FFL against each other; each team in the league would play each of the other teams at least once during the yr (depending on how many teams we would get to join). Thus, each team would accumulate a Win/Loss record and standings would be kept. In order to record a Win, your team would have to score more pts in that given week than your opponent. Simple enough, eh? Standings would be kept recording all wins and losses, etc. A playoff bracket would be set for the last few weeks to determine the Champion.

whew...that was alot.

Got it?

I know a lot about american football!

TE = Tight End; a sort of offensive lineman and wide receiver hybrid who makes a few catches a game.

RB = Running Back; takes handoffs, runs and catches the football and scores the majority of his touchdowns on the ground. Also the most valuable of all fantasy football positions.

Running Back like Emmit Smith?

for all of those concerned with the lack of knowledge regarding the players...

any website we'd use ALWAYS has a 'cheat sheet' type list where they rank each player at all of the positions. this is an indespensible tool for any fantasy football mgr.

Im in!!!! And this year I wont miss the deadline.

cool...i like that avatar also ;)

to everyone interested in the CFC Fantasy Football League:

the NFL season starts around the last weekend of Aug/first weekend of Sept so we would try and set up the on-line draft some time during aug. the trick would be to have everyone agree on a time and day. the exact day and time is specified by the host site. the earlier we sign up, the more time slots that we'll have to choose from.

Or we could do like last year, pick a day to start and every person gets like 4 or 5 hours. It would be in some kind of predetermined order. And they can pre-determine thier picks incase they cant make thier pick, I liked that site.

yeah, each mgr should put together that list (which most sites allow you to 'rank' the players and they are auto-selected based on your preference/order)

it may not be too hard to get everyone together especially since we have so much time.
