I realise this defeats the whole purpose of the 3d engine, but...
It seems some people are having slowdown issues with Civ4 due to the 3d units. That, and as a larger number of people have pointed out, 3d graphics aren't really necessary in a strategy game, just eye candy.
SO I ask the question:
Has anyone put together a mod or graphics pack which replaces the 3d unit graphics with a 2d version? Like a cardboard cutout of the 3d image? I know I'd use it if it meant stopping all the damnable CTDs I'm having. Any solution's looking good right about now, and to be honest, I think that cardboard-cutout units would actually look pretty cool.
Well, tongue-in-cheek, at least.
Failing that, I have an awful lost of spare time coming up over the holidays and wouldn't be averse to having someone teach me how to do it myself... Although I never did find hard work that attractive a concept
so I'd prefer to see if one of the more experienced graphics-y people out there has done it already...
Anyone? :Hopeful:
