yeah, I'll accept that. I think they were more mortars than artillery but frankly I can't really tell the difference between the two.

From what I've read they were such a hassle to move and use, that they caused more problems than they solved.

For a bonus anyone want to tell the name?

@steviejay - They *did* look a lot like mortars, but IIRC their firing action was like
a howitzer... Also (IIRC) it took something like 300 men to work one gun. Not to
mention the amount of resources consumed...

But onwards... In nice round figures, how long did the siege of Lenningrad last?

Yep. Your question, Alder.

Under which name the Uboat type XXVII B became known and quite famous?

Adler

It just so happens I am big into U-boats right now, and playing Silent
Hunter II every night  :mischief: .

XXVII B was a mini-sub called the 'Seehund' (Seal). Also called type 127.

Stay away Adler :D ---

wasnt that when the germans were llanding ppl to blow up the hydro dams in Niagra falls by sub?

well they were sabotures right... I read a book on this in High School, the name stuck inmy head. They were on 2 subs and they were to sabotage different things around the us to cause panic and fear. Supposedly the bombs were supposed to be put in Jewish shops with the hope that anti semitisim would become rampant in the us. i remember that because it was the first real spy operation to provoke something that I learned about.

Pastorius was the codename for a 'spy' operation when U-202 and U-548
set 8 agents ashore in the USA (NC coast) in June 1942. Nothing meaningful
became of it ;) .

Cidknee was pretty close if not right so 'Your go cidknee' :goodjob:
