We are going to have a 2vs2 tournament in NQ. Strictly for fun and bragging rights. Winning team will get free bi into monthly ffa game.

Rules will be as follows:

1)no great wall

2)no shift moves( I know some ppl think this is big part of a team game but we are trying to make it friendly for all caliber of players new and experienced)

3)no turn limit.

4)game settings: map = north vs south
-ruins = on
-barbs = off
-no city states.
-resources = strategic balance

5)civ picking will go as follows: Teams will alternate picking a civ to be banned. 4 civs banned in total. All other civs are fair game. Mirror civs are aloud. 1st team to ban is the second to pick civ alternating.

Tournament will be held on Sunday August 12th starting around 9-10 am EST/2-3pm GMT depending on how many sign up. Actual schedule will be updated closer to the date of tourney.

Please make a post if your interested. Either post your team of 2 or if you are looking for a teammate feel free to find through this post:)

max turns 200

either set a real limit (like 120 or 150turns) or dont set a limit at all.
Cant imagine a team 2-2 game taking 200turns

But 150 turns can take 5+ hours allready easily

You neglected to add the part of the quote which says "this topic is up for discussion":scan:

I'm not a frequent team game player so any advice is more than welcome. Thanks:)

I thought it would be a nice change for a day in NQ and many members have showed support. I'm going to update the thread shortly with advanced rules such as game settings and picking or random civs.

Im against a turn limit at all.

How about banning civs by the teames before games? Some are really unfun to play against. Oh and no random civs please thats exeptionally unbalanced.

I was thinking the 4 players in game each pick a civ and then randomize those 4 civs??

But again I'm open to suggestions??

Having run many tournaments, I think you have to have turn limits, getting players to schedule tournament games can be difficult to start with, not setting a turn or time limit will make the scheduling/rescheduling continuing games even more difficult. If you want my or SK's advice on running Civ5 tournaments just pm us in steam.

Cheers CS

I set turn limits to 150 turns. Think that is too many still? Having science being pooled what tech/era will you be at in 150 turns?

BTW thanks for the advice!!!

It would depend on the amount of conflict, but 150 is definitely post-artillery, which few 2v2s last beyond.

And what exactly is the point of a turn limit in Civ5? If a team thinks it cant win anymore or doesnt want to play anymore they can surrender.

So it only effects games that are nominaly undecided. And then what, let a system of ingame point values that are in no way relevant or accurate determine the winner? Seems like a bad system to me, the point system is pretty flawed and exploitable.

And playtime cant be the issue here, were talking about Civ5. If you play a tournament games are supposed to last 1 day or 2 anyway in Civ5. Unless you want to play the whole tournament in 1 day which i doubt?

Setting a turn limit just removes strategy from the game, makes certain civs mandatory picks while others become useless etc.
