3.17 installed, now message appears: insert correct disc

Daemon Tool uninstalled - I've got a Laptop and because I don't want to take tons of cd-cases with me if I use my portable computer outdoors, I've made/downloaded some ISO of my ORIGINAL (just in case somebody is suspicious :P ) games. The new patch does not like Daemon Tools. After I uninstalled it, it works fine. (With Civ4 I always used the dvd itself because I'm playing it most often, but if I want to have some other games in my holidays or even, if I play multiple games at the same time, Daemon Tools are a good thing to have).

Its quite funny that those software developers still don't know that the only people they disturb with copy protection are their own regular customers (like me) - the ones that make illegal copies (not like me) have a crack anyway...
Furthermore this particular copy protection that does nothing but to cause trouble if you have another program installed is no protection for Civ4 at all. Not even for other games, because everyone can re-install Daemon Tools without problems.

So it's just an inconvinience without ANY reason nor legitimation.

Yeah, I think the 3.17 version makes it harder to use Daemon Tools. It still works sometimes, but seems very flakey. I find it easier to use my original CD for 3.17, even though I hate doing that.

I've already had a disc of another game go "bad", and that prevented me from playing the game because of the stupid copy-protection.

Yeah, the only customers that Firaxis is punishing are the ones who paid for their product. Pirate versions probably already have a crack included with them, so what's the point of the Safedisc anti-piracy crap?

absolutely - also if I had used an ISO of Civ4: BtS I could at least see a reason in this protection, but if I have my original DVD in my original *g* DVD drive, it's quite unlogical that an error like "no original disc" appears. If the error would have been "you have daemon tools installed" - okay that would be honest at least, if unnessecary any way.
Because (haven't tried yet) the funny thing is, that if I would use a crack to circumvent the de-installation of daemon tools it supposingly would work. So if I'm a customer who bought the game I can't use the original disc if at the same time I have installed daemon tools - but if I was a software pirat I could download and play it via daemon tools without trouble.
Sometimes I wonder, if it's really the best thing to be a honest person...
I mean hey I've bought Civ1, Civ2, ToT, Civ3, Civ4, BtS, and PLENTY of other games and now patch 3.17 wants to tell ME I was a software pirat? what is it up to? make me one or something?
crap.

Moderator Action: I realize you own the game legally, but that doesn't change the fact that we don't allow this sort of discussion in our forums. Therefore I'm closing this thread and asking you all to please not discuss it. Thank you!
