After we finish researching Currency, we will probably go right into The Middle Ages. This new Science Age will offer several paths to take in the Tech Tree.

My question to you in this poll concerns the importance of the Tech we can be at 3 Tech Advances beyond Currency. Listed below are four different paths that will be available to us to use.

Monotheism -->Theology -->Education

Monotheism -->Theology -->Printing Press

Monotheism -->Feudalism -->Chivalry

Engineering -->Feudalism -->Invention

So by following any of those paths, in 3 Techs we could be at Education, Printing Press, Chivalry, or Invention. Which one of these four Techs do you feel is the most important to Fanatica at this time? Please choose only one of the four Tech options listed above. Abstain is also an option.

This poll is Informational and is meant to be used by the Science Dept. in determining the proper queue to post for the DP to use.

This poll will remain open for 72 hours unless there is a turn chat on the 2nd of July. Then the results at that time can be applied to the t/c if needed.

Discussion on Science paths can be found in the following threads:

Monarchy?

Research Strategy

What do YOU want?

We seem to be revolting to Monarchy in order to get to Democracy ASAP. There is no sight for further warring so no need for Chivalry yet. We shouldn't help our opponents so taking out the Great Lib is nice.

Combined; I say: Monotheism -->Theology -->Education . This will kill the Great lib, bee-line straight for Democracy and doesn't give a "useless" tech prining press.

I agree with you, Rik Meleet. I have voted for Education for the same reasons.

I'd say Chivalry.

Do you really want to wait to be attacked? If we go straight for the most powerful units of the age, we can use that head start to our advantage and easily take over one or two more nations before they become infested with pikemen.

Octavian: I read from your responses here and on other pages that you prefer a war of conquest. If that is the case I advise you to start a discussion on this. Before we started to play a Poll was held and most citizens wanted a Space Race victory. The planning for our Empire should go that way then.
If you want a different victory can convince the majority to start to become aggressive again by discussions or polls, but don't assume that is what we are going to do as from now.

I do realize that a majority of the citizenry would prefer a peaceful win this time around - I'm one of them. However, if we are to stand a chance at all to win in space, we need to act agressively early on. There's no guarentee the resources required for a space ship will be present near our home. Our chances of gaining access to the resources we need right away increase if we actually control the territory it's in. Conquering it after we discover something valuable would be difficult, trading would be expensive (and would assume the AI was at our research level), etc.

If we can make an effort to control the land today, our effort will pay off when we can use those resources in the future. If we humble ourselves to our plot of land, we may very well have a difficult time getting what we need in the future.

Hehehe. Octavian we just tried a brief conquest route with one of the most formidable unique units in the Ancient age at our side and we couldn't put much of a dent in a nation whose UU is a Chariot. Wasting time going after another Military unit would seriously hinder our efforts to advance as a Scientific World Leader, a position one must hold if the Spaceship Victory is sought. Eliminating the Great Library from the Borg-like AI would be a key step in our advancement.

I voted to go for the Printing Press. I suspect that the AI will research education before we can get to it, whereas it doesn't seem to put such a high priority on researching the Printing Press and we may be able to sell it to them for a decent price if we can get there first.

I Voted to go for Chivalry. That way we can get some Knights to further crush our opponents :).

I voted Education. Keep in mind it is also possible to get Feudalism(which we really don't need) and Chivalry by trading the techs from the Education path. We also get first crack at the Sistine Chapel(Theology) on the way.

Now, all you warmongers, go back up to post #7 and read Cyc's thoughts again. ;)

I'd say Education or Invention, (I voted Education).

We need to get to maximize Scientific thought if we wish to reach the stars. However, I do think Leo's Workshop would be very valuable so we can put more gold into research and rushing instead of upgrading troops.

Also in the long term we must try to get all the Scientific wonders that come our way. and I THINK it might be best if we TRY to get them all in 1 city, probobly our Capital. But that's a little more long term...

I voted to go for Education, as it provides the fastest way to the scientific wonders Copernicus and Newtons, and can be traded for the other pre-reqs to Democracy, or for the Invention path.

Our capitol is not the right place to put them, as it is destined for low production. Gorina appears the better choice of the current city sites.

Personally I suspect that education will be widespread before we can get a hold of it. It's also worth pointing out that even if we do manage to get it before the AI does, the only pre-req to Democracy that we could possibly hope to trade it for is Printing Press - which I believe the AI will probably not bother researching until after it has education.

I vote Printing Press. In all of my games, I have never seen the AI research that one ONCE. They always ended paying for it through the nose for it to me. I know that on Emperor they dont, not sure of Deity, but its an almost guarentee that on Monarch they wont head to Printing Press. I see that it is not the leader as of now, but I urge people to vote Printing Press if they are yet to do so. I also hope that this network I'm using doesnt loose this... Who knew some reststops upstate had WiFi networks?
