Most players should be aware that cities can work the first three rings of tiles (which can also be bought with gold).

Over time, cities can also acquire 4th and 5th Ring Tiles (and with Marcus Licinius Crassus you can technically get 6th Ring, 7th Ring, and 8th Ring Tiles). Now these tiles cannot be bought - they need to be acquired naturally through culture (unless you use Crassus).

- 4th and 5th Ring tiles CANNOT be worked by a city

- Improvements on 4th and 5th Ring tiles do NOT contribute to Housing

- Improvements on 4th and 5th Ring tiles DO provide luxury and strategic resources

- And what I just discovered (and is the impetus for this thread) is that improvements on 4th and 5th Ring tiles DO provide power to a city.

Since Gathering Storm is still new to me, I was pleasantly surprised to discover my Solar Farms and Wind Farms provided power on 4th and 5th Ring tiles. Lets me keep the first three rings of tiles for better things....

Yeah, I found that out as well. It's also useful for placing farms for adjacency.

You can also put national parks on the outer rings, although sometimes (maybe it's fixed now?) there's a bug where appeal is calculated incorrectly for unworkable outer tiles
