Welcome to the 6otM100 Opening Actions thread.
STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed at least 80 to 100 turns in your game.
This thread is used to discuss the game once you've started playing through your first 100 turns. Apart from normal decency, the only posting restrictions are to please not post videos until the deadline is finished and to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind. :)
Please use this thread to discuss your goals for the game and your opening moves through the first 100 turns. Anything after that should be posted in the After Actions thread once you have completed your game.

- Where did you settle your city?
- What did you research and which policies did you choose and why?

Hello! First time trying one of these and it looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for making the challenge.

I settled in place and started on mining. Was hoping to boost Astrology but alas no luck. Opening build order went slinger, monument, builder. Found a relic and started clearing out some nearby barbs. Chose River Goddess for my pantheon.

Rushed The Oracle and got it, but delaying my holy site until I could remove the stone to the south meant I missed out on Feed The World; I chose Work Ethic instead. Chose Mosques for my building and started purchasing Soothsayers and prepping for a Religious win. Missed a Golden Age by ONE POINT. UGH.

Promoted Pingala to start with and may switch to Moksha later. Joined the Sanguine Pact, my personal favorite Society for playing tall.

Managed to also get The Great Bath and TOA. Next major steps will be getting Tithe and either Holy Order or Monastic Isolation. Just unlocked Shipbuilding, so now to send some units north towards Khmer and get a couple scouts to find everybody else. And of course, gonna get a few more Soothsayers. Should be able to secure a Medieval Golden Age, which will expedite the religious spread.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else does!

First turn of the Medieval, Turn 108. Already goofed up by placing my Theater Square so I won't be able to build Bolshoi and missed a Golden Medieval by 1 Era Score. I didn't pay enough attention to how much maintenance there is on Soothsayers also, hemorrhaging Gold like a fiend trying to warehouse them for the next Appease the Gods.

That's funny that my CO2 output has sabotaged my Diplomatic Points from the get-go.

Someone will do better than this, someone practiced at Great Bath strategy:

Curious to know why you moved off the starting location tile. I see some potential value in doing so - the coastal access would be handy if you go Owls, and, getting some boats out could mitigate the challenge I had finding the opponent cities. Just curious about your process there.

Mostly it's because mountains are dead hexes, unless you build Machu Picchu, in OCC. You might still be able to get the Religious Victory settling in place but you will need every hex you can get for the Science Victory.

Sometimes you have to move in OCC to give yourself more luxuries in reach, to maintain Happiness and to sell, but this is Prince. Temple of Artemis and eventually Colosseum will give me all the amenities I will need. Borders will eventually push out to fourth, fifth, even sixth ring and although you can't work those hexes you can still develop those tiles for benefits that don't require a citizen to work.

edit: and I probably should have taken Sanguine Pact instead of Voidspeakers. A castle in the center of those floodplains would be preposterous!

I started playing the Harald OCC on Emperor. Settled in place, got to turn 50 and said, "WE'RE GOING DEITY, BABY"

I've never beat a deity game yet. But I know this will be the one. Not gonna lie, I've played it and lost by only several turns in the space race - TWICE now (I won't say who beat me, both times). I know OCC is a drastically different play style, but I am learning a lot and improving with each attempt. I am loving these challenges.

@VektorKat I am also loving the Civ 6 Challenge League!

How many Appease the Gods competitions did you guys get in the first 100 turns? I only had one so far...

Vampire Castles cannot be placed on floodplains or volcanic soil. They also can't be placed on luxuries, features or bonus resources.
Vampire Castles in your territory cannot be worked by a pop.
Despite "sending their yields to the capital", the yields are not assigned to the tile of the capital city center. So you cannot create "loops" by placing Vampire Castles next to the capital city center where each castle is reinforcing the yields of the other.
Basically, anything that would make them extremely powerful (or unbalanced) has been ruled out.

Also, you would need to generate 2.33 times more faith as the Sanguine Pact to break even with the +20%(35% total) faith earned as science/culture that Ethiopia gets as the Voidsingers.
There are 10 floodplains near the starting location, 9 left after building the Great Bath. There is a spot where you can build a castle near 3 floodplains, but all others can only be built adjacent to 2. You thus start at the equivalent of 14 floodplains with the 2 medieval castles, but you would need 21 to break even with the Voidsingers.
However, with the faith yield equivalent of 14 floodplains you are definitively generating more faith (but less culture and science) which would allow you to buy more Soothsayers which will increase the yield of the floodplains earlier. You will eventually reach the necessary output of 2.33 times, but I am afraid it will come too late (intuition). I thus think going for Sanguine Pact is suboptimal.
