Welcome to the 6otM45 Opening Actions thread.

Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind. :)

Please use this thread to discuss your goals for the game and your opening moves through the first 100 turns. Anything after that should be posted in the After Actions thread once you have completed your game.

I sent my warrior to the north and the settler to the south. This turned out to be a BONANZA for population growth in Krakow. It’s not overly productive but does look to have some nice chops.

I settled the 2nd city on the cocoa to the East and slightly south in hopes of trading it to an AI. Although I could see Robert the Bruce’s Edinburgh I couldn’t get anyone there to actually meet him due to a barb camp in the area.

I finally sent my warrior to purposefully meet Scotland, then forward settled Gniezno as a precursor to conquest. My archer also found out where those barbs were coming from and made a hasty retreat (leaving the camp for The Bruce to deal with).

It was around this time when my trade route when active and currency was boosted.

I built a holy site in Krakow ASAP (Astrology boosted from Lake Rebta), and managed to found the 4th religion with just the single holy site. I chose choral music and the Stupa. I'm looking for Monastic Isolation next (hope it’s still available).

Took Magnus 1st and waited to chop Krakow until I had an encampment with a stable as well as the appropriate number of builders. Began chopping T76 and had 4 turns of overflow 1-turn horse production by chopping in conjunction with the Maneuver policy card (+50% Classical light+heavy cavalry). I put Liang in my 2nd city for extra builder chops. I then began “The Scottish Campaign.”

THE SCOTTISH CAMPAIGN
The 1st Scottish city fell T79 and the 4th fell T88. I’d have finished him except for Kullen which he founded to the North near Buenos Aires I’m assuming (theoretically) to harvest the iron. Stirling had a holy site, a campus, and a commercial hub, he built the Hanging Gardens is in Dundee, and the rest of the cities look like appropriate for holy sites.

On T88 I accepted Robert the Bruce's peace offerings (all his gold horde and all his gold income for 30 turns). I had suspected he might sue for peace, so was able to send a missionary to Stirling, convert the heathens to the “Hosers R Us” religion, and place my 3rd governor (Moksha) there for the +100% passive spread ability on the same turn as we made peace.

France and Russia declared a joint formal war against me T94. As the only other civ on the continent (Robert the Bruce) has been dispatched, the two of them are on another continent, and I just completed the mercenaries civic (Winged Hussar), I am not overly concerned. I figure this a decent point to stop the narrative and post to opening actions.

I emphasized expansion then conquest and had my 9 cities by T88. I am presently at war with Carthage, which should fall when my battering ram arrives. I will then take Scotland's last city (Kullen) and perhaps Buenos Aires (although not necessarily in that order as Scotland is currently paying reparations).

As of T95 my pantheon (Oral Tradition) is providing 12 of my 44 culture per turn, with choral music providing only 2. This should change quickly as my religion spreads and the holy sites go up. Oral tradition made a marked difference early on moving me through the civics tree. Now, perhaps not so much.

No surprises.

Where did you settle your capital city? Your second city?

I settle on spot.My second city went beside the natural wonder to get to golden age.

- How did you get your Great Prophet? Were you first, second, third...?

I started with astrology, got a boost 4 turns before completion. Then i didn't spend much effort on it, i had the holy site up fast, prophet points were rising slowly. There was only one competitor and a Stonehenger so i wasn't worried. When i got my 2nd holy site near the natural wonder and the shrine up in the capital i got my religion quite fast.

- What did you research and which policies did you choose and why?

Astrology, then archery against the barbs. I also made two port cities on the two sides to meet other civs and for trade, so i did sailing too. As for policies I went for theology.

- What was your build order?

scout, scout, holy site, silinger, slinger, slinger, settler

- How soon did you build a District? Which ones did you prioritize?

Very fast. Turn 20 I think. I emphasized holy site, now theatre square and campus.

How long did it take to find your neighbors? Were they hostile or friendly?

I found Scotland very quickly. They were unfriendly for a long time. After 100 turns we're declared friends though. I found France and Russia later around turn 80.

- Did you try to build any Wonders?

Just Mahabodhi Temple, which i finished turn 104. No chops or carrds used, took 21 turns.

- Did you emphasize expansion? How many cities have you built/captured in the first 100 turns?

Well, not really. Though i have 7 cities by turn 104. I built 4 settlers with faith from my golden age. I chose desert folklore so i had a +4 and a +6 holy site from early on. With theology my faith got higher even more.

- How quickly did you get Trade Routes working, who did you trade with?

Quite fast, i think turn 30. Started with Antioch. I had to send a warrior to escort aganist barb scouts. Then one of the scottish cities, now i'm doing domestic to boost my port citries.

- How did you play your governance cards, priorities?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Used card for slinger, then settler, then builders, then for ships, finally for the holy site adj bonus.

- Which Governors did you choose and why did you choose them?

Magnus, to have settlers without pop loss. Then Reina to get more gold, then Moksha.

- Was your first age a Dark Age? Did you take any Dark Age cards?

No, it was a golden age. I chose the faith/gold buy builder/settler.

- What City-States did you meet and which ones did you cultivate to your side?

Only met Carhage, Antioch, and Buenos Aires. Antioch was quickly suzed by Scotland so i didn't bother. I'm going for buenos aires suz, no reason. I just met Toronto around turn 100.

- How were the Barbarians?

They were not of any concern. I dealt with them easily.

- Any surprises?

I never finished Mahabodhi, it was a surprise I could finish this game.
