Proposal : Remove triple gold from barb camps + cities to Songhai UA

Rationale :
Songhai is a bit too strong right now and their UA is just better than Iroquois, as they can move/fight along rivers and clear camps while Iroquois can only move/fight on forest. The city connection is also there for both.

Another contributing factor is that Songhai is geared towards a lot of production naturally, with their Tabya UB and Authority policy tree. They will naturally focus on clearing camps with Authority, so that means there will be tons of gold coming from barb camps.
That triple gold allows to purchase a lot of buildings early and added to the production bonuses just becomes too much in my opinion.

Same for the triple gold from cities, just scales too well with authority and Songhai in general, who can easily take cities with horses who can run across the map.

That’s the only part of Songhai’s kit that isn’t a direct copy/paste of Iroquois’ kit. So you want to make the overlap between those two civs even more explicit?

We should be looking for changes to the city connections and movement on rivers.

I agree that it's the movement bonus that make them OP. That should be the nerf focus in my opinion.

MAGI: OP needs proper format (highlighted proposal and rationale sections)

Yes.
Because I don't mind the copy/paste since its a different terrain and combat strategy.
The gold is the overkill part in my opinion.

I could get behind nerfing something else, but you guys can make your own proposal for that I guess.

I agree personally on both counts.

1) The gold is absolutely the overkill part - when I played him recently and found I could buy a full units worth with every barb camp kill I was amazed, was not expecting it to be this good given his obvious strengths elsewhere. Provides such a ridiculous boost to city infrastructure as well if used on invests early game.
2) I thought the city river connection and road thing was super fun from an empire planning and building perspective, I don't mind it being simialar to the same effect for a different terrain type. The whole settling downriver and instantly having city connection and troop rotation possibilities is a great power/rp fantasy moment; I'm willing to sacrifice a slight lack of uniqueness on a unique ability for the sake of fun in this instance

If it were up to me I feel pretty strongly that just removing the extra gold and amphibious from units that can't get it normally would put them at the power level of most of the others but it is what it is, most people like that aspect of the civ I guess

That's why I want to give the river connections to everyone.

oh, hell yea!

Love this idea, got my vote. Not like noticing that wood floats is a difficult concept to grasp the implications of, I think pretty much every culture in the world near a water source figured out how to make rafts, canoes, or both LOL
