8 minutes and 17 seconds!

agreed, but windows running background processes on the other core is a huge help when the system only has 1 gig of ram.
agreed. It's all the RAM I got, and it's tough to upgrade stuff on a laptop.... (must go to best buy and upgrade vid card....)

eke! The vid card is probably a bit more expensive than the mem upgrade for a laptop. I can't imagine it being the opposite.

That's how long it took from me to hit the red button at the end of one of my turns to load the next turn - judging the "next turn" as the "What would you like to build next?" menu.

I'm running BtS's UK release, playing the largest possible map (I think) with 10 civs (including me) left in the running. My machine has 3gbs of RAM, a dual core intel 1.8ghz processor, and a GF 8600GT graphics card.

What on earth could be behind nearly 10 minutes of loading time? How can I cut it down? It's my day off, and I want to be gaming, not waiting for it to do what it should be doing!

Aaargh

Your processor isn't good enough to keep up is what the problem is. BTS's AIs tend to produce a lot more military units and this will wear on your processor over time, especially in the later game.

He never specified what his CPU was. For all you know it's a Core 2 Duo e4300 1.8Ghz, which spanks the 1.8Ghz Pentium 4 minimum requirement and then some. Then again, it may be a Pentium 4.... :crazyeye:

between that and the bugs (capitulation vassal espionage, captured cities on capitulated vassal borders getting their fat cross but continually going into revolt, and the annoying tendency of my friendly neighbors with the same religion and civics declaring war on me) I almost wanna stop playing entirely.

none of those are bugs

None of those are bugs?

You telling me when I culture bomb and pump up the happiness for a city I just captured and shoot the culture up to 60% and the nearest AI city is running 20% clearly my city should go into revolt every 5-10 turns. Forget that my borders never expand beyond the fat cross.

Also when I beat the crap out of an AI and he capitulates, he still performs espionage on me, despite the fact I can't remove him from vassalage (unless I am missing something) and kick him in the teeth until he learns some respect?

Or my personal favorite is friendly/pleased with a civ who suddenly turns on me for no reason after 5000 years of peace, and its not even an aggressive civ most of the time.

WTH is the point of vassalage then? The AI needs to realize when it only has 2-4 cities left and without my help would still be stuck on musketmen while everyone is using tanks that he should thank his lucky stars I didn't wipe him off the face of the planet. Its not like I treat my vassals like crap, in most cases I can get them back up to friendly/pleased with me and they still try to sabotage/espionage/be a pain in the ass, its ********.

those are issues you personally have with the game design, they are not programming defects.

in the real world countries spy on their neighbours and allies all the time....and as far as this game goes, in the end, only one civ can win.

which is the same reason why even friendly civs will attack you if they feel it's to their advantage, they are actually trying to win!

mind boggling, i know

I have personally never ever seen a Civ at "friendly" declare war on me. Other than on AP votes (kill the heathen votes).

In the code the AI is set so that friendly AI's will never DoW when on "friendly" status. I've seen many Pleased AI DoW so watch out for that.

The problem seems to have been fixed by disabling friendly and enemy moves, and installing Solver's patch and the 3.03 BtS patch

what won't be optimized?

seems that i'm not the only one who thinks the dual core helps out:p

The program - Civ 4. It will not be 100% optimized for Dual Core operation. Yes, the kernal will load some between the main core and the second, however this will be small background processes and threads pushed to the second.

Its not like Core 0 deals with AI and Core 1 deals with Graphics and Music for example..

I think something's wrong with your PC. I have only 1gb of ram and it never takes longer than 1-2 min for each turn. Game's not broken; your PC is.

Oh no, of course not. However, having one core deal with windows and the associated background programs and processes while the other core deals with the game definitely gives rise to an improvement over single core. That's all I was saying.
