I don't care if I gotta play the game so I can see only 9 tiles, does anyone know if there's a way to get 800x600 resolution? I tried doing it in the config.ini file (although I may have done it wrong, as it stayed in 1024x768 mode). I simply want to know if its even possible to do. I'm finding the only way I can reasonable play civ4 in the later stages of the game is to move the screen to an empty water tile before I end my turn.

My laptop isn't that great; 2.0ghz, intel extreme graphics with 64 mb, and 256 mb ram, but if its at all possible to play in 800x600 mode, let me know how, and provide a screenshot if you can.

bump.... i have the same problem :(

edit
sorry, i found a solution already on like the 8th page of the search :P

There is a setting in the _civ4config.ini file for this.

I am planning to buy wide screen LCD with 1480x1050 resolution (IIRC). Does the setting in _civ4config.ini file will do the trick for 1480x1050 resolution?

Arto.

1480x1050 is not a valid monitor resolution. For Vertical 1050 pixels, you need 1680 pixels horizontally. I think you are getting a 1680x1050 LCD. Those are a very common widescreen resolution.

Thank you. As I mentioned on my post, it is IIRC (If I Recall Correctly). So it is 1680x1050 and not 1480x1050.

Does anyone can set it via _civ4config.ini file?

Civ should be able to work with any resolution as long as your graphics card, graphics driver, and the display device (LCD) support it. AND, the resolution is equal or higher than 1024x768.

The last condition says that AFAIK you won't be able to use some widescreen resolutions like 1280x720 (because 720 is less than 768).

Another note: 1400x1050 is also a fairly common resolution (but it's not widescreen) (so Fool is probably right with his 1680x1050 guess) (and this resolution should work) (provided your CPU/GPU is strong enough to run civ without hiccups).
