This may be old news for most, but real new for me.

Whenever an AI would ask for a rediculus trade I always told them to pound sand. This time it was different. America wanted one of my techs (don't remember which tech) and in exchange offered world map. T tried to get them to add more but was turned down.

Then I asked what they would give for it I was amazed to get not only the world map but 253 gold per turn, some luxuries, and 50 cash.

There you go. Always use that strategy... and add more on the table. 253 gpt for a WM seems a little overpriced tho :hmm:

No, I didn't read your post carefully. I made the mistake. Sorry! As for trading - always turn the offer so that you can see what they really would pay for it, and then try to raise the gpt or lump sum gradually.

Absolutely! Turn down their initial offer and ask for a different trade. You'll almost always do better. But don't just turn them down cold. Your relations improve the more trades you have going.

However!! don't forget that any trades of techs you make that are initiated by the AI in its turn mean that that AI is going to turn around and sell the tech you gave them off to everyone else before your next turn. :( Beware!

I've also found that when an AI asks to renew a resources trade, you should probably accept the offer. The terms you set when you first made the deal are usually better than any other terms that you'll get later on. I've turned down renewal offers for luxuries in the hopes of renegotiating, and found that the AI now won't trade to me at all -- or they've even traded their furs or gems off to someone else in the time it took me to turn them down and switch to the negotiations screen. Grrrr.

Yes, if they contact you before "your turn" is up ("The xxxxx have requested an audience") and you sell them a tech in that deal/diplomacy session, they will certainly whore that tech around to all the others. Just give them 1 gold and close the session. When you are back in "your turn", open up the diplomacy again and sell the tech. Now you are able to sell it to all the other civs too.
