Thank you to the people who answered my previous questions. I have a couple more.
Firstly, is an advantage to host? I hosted a game yesterday, and I seemed to be moving a bit quicker, but it may just have been that the connections were generally fast: pings were all below 100ms.
Secondly, to what extent do people automate things? Even in SP, it's slightly confusing when I'm in the middle of a war and I need to stop to decide whether to mine or farm a river-side hill or what the optimal route for a road is or whatever. In MP, it can be deadly, if I time out while trying to decide what to do with a worker, and then at the start of the next turn, I'm looking at completely the wrong part of the board. So I'm wondering if I should turn on worker automation and stop micro-managing my cities after about turn 50. Except that, if I turn worker automation on during war time, the workers tend to wander stupidly to where they'll be killed.
