First problem: Whenever my computer goes into standby mode, I can't get it out of standby unless I turn it off by the power button and turn the computer back on.

Second problem: I recently installed Internet Explorer 7 and whenever I try to go on any website it comes up with this.

Just use Firefox :)

In my, albeit limited, experience of this problem, it's usually due to a driver conflict, although working out which driver is causing the problem is never going to be easy.

I know it's not really a solution, but unless you are running a laptop, or otherwise really need to use the standby option, I would advise against using it altogether. If you're worried about saving energy then just turn off the monitor when you walk away from the PC as that tends to be the largest power hungry device by far.

Sorry I couldn't offer more than that. :)

My computer is a desktop. I turned standby off, if I don't really need it. I turn my monitor off whenever I leave my computer anyway.

How do I find out if it's a driver conflict?

I used to do phone support and potential driver conflicts like this were always the hardest cases to resolve.

There really isn't anyway of directly telling what's causing the problem; you're having to reset the entire machine when it locks up so you clearly have no access to real-time monitoring.

If you noticed it started happening after you upgraded your graphics drivers, for example, you could try rolling them back or upgrading them again, assuming new ones are available. Otherwise it really could be anything, and even something as innocuous sounding as a badly behaved mouse driver can prevent a machine coming out of standby. Then again a recent windows security update could be conflicting with your motherboard drivers causing it to no longer sense any of the "wake up" inputs such as moving the mouse or hitting a key.

Sorry again for the lack of any concrete help, but this type of issue is notoriously difficult to diagnose at a distance, and even having direct access to the hardware is no guarantee that a fix could be found. Unfortunately, the best fix for a machine that never comes out of hibernation is to make sure it never hibernates in the first place.
