I never buy games. The last good game I bought was AOE2. It was loads of fun and now, I'm wishing that I'd bought AOE3 instead of CIV4... Here's why:

1. 50 bucks is a lot of money that I can't get refunded because the game has been opened.

2. I got the French Tech tree. (bug number 1)

3. I got the ATI rendered bug. (bug number 2)

4. The manual is full of errors. Major errors. Key sequences that do not work at all fill its pages. (bug number 3)

5. The game crashes whenever I'm contacted by another CIV. Sometimes this causes my computer to reboot, other times, I have to manually turn the cmputer off as the screen will go black and everything becomes generally unresponsive. (bug number 4).

6. When the game works ;) It's not a very intuitive game. Look at all of the questions on these, and other forums, (where are my inactive workers at, how do I find X,Y or Z, or when do I know when I have a X). (bug number 5)

7. I have a new Dell XPS gaming system. I paid 3K for it. So, don't tell me to update my drivers or complain that I need new hardware. This is a *strategy* game for God's sake, not the latest and greatest FPS. I have winxp sp2 that was freshly installed a week before the game arrived.

8. I called Take2 techsupport and they hung up on me. Doesn't that say everything? Sell a problematic game with loads of bugs and then hangup on paying customers who call with legitmate problems seeking help.

9. IMO, Firaxis is using the *previously* good name of Sid to sell a game that is subpar (and that is being kind). Truth be told, this game is junk and should never have been released. In my eyes, Sid's reputation will be tarnished forever. Why he would allow a game of this sort to be branded with his name is unforgiveable. :(

10. A game such as this tarnishes the good name of Python. How can a wonderfully simple, yet superbly powerful OO scripting language be used in such a horrendous piece of software? Perl I could understand, as it is for barbarians, but Python? Python is far too elegant for CIV4.

AOE3 it is then. Farewell CIV, You were good in your day, but this is too much. One can only take so much. I'll be posting my Collector's Edition on eBay. All original, only used once... free shipping worldwide to any fool who'll buy it.

No offense, buddy, but yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.

There are thousands of people here who have posted the exact same thing as you. You have added NOTHING to the discussion.

50 bucks is not a lot of money.

2. I got the French Tech tree. (bug number 1)

Me too. Sucks a little. Lots of substitues posted here.

3. I got the ATI rendered bug. (bug number 2)

Your bad for buying a crappy video card!

4. The manual is full of errors. Major errors. Key sequences that do not work at all fill its pages. (bug number 3)

Example please?

5. The game crashes whenever I'm contacted by another CIV. Sometimes this causes my computer to reboot, other times, I have to manually turn the cmputer off as the screen will go black and everything becomes generally unresponsive. (bug number 4).

Never had a problem like that.

Hardly a bug....and yes, it takes some getting used to.

It's the video card, dude. What were you thinking buying a Dell, anyway?

Uhhh, yeah. Sorry.

Someone call the WAHmbulance.

That WHAmbulance still here?

Have fun with your clickfest.

Seriously, can you tell me, what this post was supposed to accomplish?

don't tell me to update my drivers

So, you're not willing to get bug patches for your hardware, which come straight from the company who made your card? What did you think driver updates do exactly?

Don't 1 in every 3 games have problems with ATI cards. About three years ago, it seemed every game did, and then they got there act together for awhile, with the 9700 and 9800, but I hear they are slipping back to there old ways again.

And if the last positive experience you had with a game was AoE2, why would NOT get AoE3? Especially since it preceded Civ3...

It sounds like most of your issues are hardware, not actually directly pertaining to the game. I would be pissed too if civ didn't work (It's not working on my 98 system... but that's below min requirements), but I'm sure firaxis will release some patches to fix any incompatibility issues...

I would reserve judgement of the actual game until I played it.

He baught a Dell for a gaming machine. Really what more do we need to know? And paid 3k for it.

I dont get why so many have trouble with ATI, I used Nvidia from the riva 128 to the geforce 2. I got married and had 2 systems, one with radeon 8500 and one with Geforce 3 TI200, both worked fine. For awhile I had 2 with Radeon 9600XT's and one with a Radeon 8500 and never said, damn I should of gotten NVIDIA. Now I have an X800 pro in this computer, a 6800gt in my wifes and still no problems, no renderer bug, just works.

no offence but i dont think this is the place to complain about a game we all (allmost) Love

Why not? This is the general discussion forum, not the forum where only good things could and should be said about the software. He is only stating an unfortunate opinion.

Trust me, Civilization IV is a lot better then Age of Empires 3. I have both games and AOE3 is the EXACT same thing as AOE2, exept it's 2-D and has home cities. The game is basically boring and nothing new.

i am very sorry you have had so many problems with this game.
i hope some day in the future it will be able to work properly
on your system.

i am one of the people lucky enough to have experienced almost
no issues with the game, and it has already brought me many hours
of smashing good gaming fun, and i am finding i like it more the more
i play it.

man, what a wonderful game this is!

a gem amoungst titles!

I'll never buy another ATI video card. A the time the 9800 Pro 256MB was top of the line... But that didnt matter because most games tended to puke on it... I actually had to put an older ti4400 back into my machine for titles like 'Pirates of the Carribean' to play.

Unfortunately there is no fix for random reboots and CTDs whenever you use a larger map and reach industrial+ area, regardless what hardware to run.

IF $50 IS SUCH A LOT OF MONEY TO YOU AND YOU, AND THE LAST GAME YOU BOUGHT CAME OUT IN 1999, HOW DO YOU HAVE A $3000 COMPUTER? HUH? HUH?

Troll.

Really? That sucks. I think I a 9700 pro for PotC. But I would have to say that the video card was not the problem for that game. A friend of mine once said the hardware giveth, and the software taketh awayeth, referencing ATI hardware and drivers. Nevertheless, I think the 9700 pro was the best card ATI ever made, but those days are long behind us now.

Don't let the door hit you in the a$$...

no $50 isnt alot of money, get a job. Since you have a $3000 PC then id assume you got one and therefore are just trolling.
