kekekeke!

i love how passionate everyone gets when people try to bash the game in here.
it is so refershing from most other game forums where everyone just wants to
kill themselves because the programmers aren't working hard enough on the
next patch.

4. The manual is full of errors. Major errors. Key sequences that do not work at all fill its pages. (bug number 3)

Example please?

Here's one, there are others... find them yourself.
Page 192 we are instructed to press 'Alt-W' to open the WorldBuilder. Try it yourself. It does not work. I think they *meant* to write 'Ctrl-W'. My problems are not made up or exaggerated. They are real. There are thousands of complaints about CIV4 all over the Web. Google for it and see (again) for yourself.

oh yeah, using Radeon7500, play lot of games, first time i have problems, so its not crappy at all, probably you're just trapped by some weird ATI/Nvidia marketing-people who forced this stupid fight between their consumers to create life-long ties to their brand

anyway, 50bucks for a great game like this isn't much money, right, but
50bucks for a damn empty CD-R is A HUGE LOT OF money, at that is the
game sadly for a lot of people, unusable (well, at least you can use the
CD-R for burning your family photos or whatever)

LOL.

And that is indeed a major error. I have seen errors in satellite guidance books that could destroy a million dollar satellite. But they are nothing compared to saying Ctrl instead of Alt. Especially since the every command in the game has a tool tip stating how to access the command via keyboard.

I too encountered 2 problems right out of the box with this game.

#1. It could not decode some files on CD #2. Eventually, I got this to work by manually copy CD #2 into my hard drive.

#2. It doesn't work on my Radeon 9600 Pro. Yes, I have the latest and greatest drivers out there and Civ4 still didn't work. I ended up spend another $64 to get a new video card, the Radeon 9600 XT. Funny, it works on the 9600 XT but not the 9600 Pro.

Other than those two problems, Civ4 seems to be a good game so far, much better than what I have expected.

Many thing you list are not bugs, and some are pure opinion.

I have also played ALL of the AoE and civ games, incluing most near knock offs, and this is HANDS DOWN the best I have every played!!!! It also, works suprisingly fast and well on both of my desktops (2 and 4 years old). i have foud only one bug, and that is on an older video card (the food bug)

I found the manual to be quite good, answering most gameplay questions about how things work. There are a few errors, but a the manual is ALWAYS based on a build several months old (neccessary because fo teh time it take to print and bingd that many manuals) they are expected. Did you bother to look in teh readme section? It had most of the hotkey changes listed.

Finally, many compatability issues have been identified, and work arounds were already being posted on teh FIRST DAY that they were reported. However, many of the problems so many are experiencing are driver based problems, as some of your seemed to be. But if you REFUSE to do basic computer maintainence, you should not fault the game company.

My wife is a big fan of the AoE line, and so we got both. AoE3 was a complete waste of money. Have fun palying it.

Ragnoff, I think there are more than a few very experienced users
like me who tried everything to get the game to work and still failed
whats your use of redirecting the fault from the company to the betrayed
users?

and even if all the people who have problems are dumb or lazy or both,
they'll still be playing other games, which are released without so many
problems for so many users

by the way, in only a couple of years firaxis released 11 blockbusters,
they should have bathtubs full of money and should be able to test
their games even better than some smaller companys releasing nearly
bugfree games

eh didnt even think about iti n my last post. Last game you got was Aoe2 and 50 dollars is alot of money. And u spent 3000 for a pc? SMBS

I think he's brought up a couple of legit issues.
First of all $50 is not a lot of money at this point in time but when you buy a game and it doesn't work (I'm not speaking for myself here) it's a waste and you wish you spent it on something else. Why doesn't firaxis just send two thugs to my house, ring the bell and when I answer the door, punch me in the face and take $50 out of my pocket and save all the trouble and aggregation spent trying to get this thing run the way a game should?
Also if the tech support hung up on him, that's a major booboo.
The crashes(also happens to me) and reboots indicate a major bug, memory leak, call it whatever you wish, that was most likely a known issue by Firaxis yets they decided to ship the game. When windows reboots or hangs up everyone cries foul, yet an OS is far more complex pice of software than a game, but that's MS and it's OK to bash them.
Also, since when does buying a $50 PC game requires a computer science degree from MIT to be able to run it. Again, I'm not speaking for myself becasue I certainly know my way around the computer I built, but there are people out there who buy brandname pc and do not feel comfortable, nor they see the need for themselves to fiddle around with drivers and over complicated installation routines just to be able to play a game they dished out $50, right out of the box. Huh?
