A few 'presumptious' ideas based on CivII/CivIII comparisons by a player new to civ 3

I don't see why anyone would NOT want voices - they'd improve the game greatly! I'd really love to hear my rivals scream at me as I refuse to sign peace :D

Polar Bear you can have the AI renegotiate deals and treaties when they expire. This works every time even if the AI wants to continue the deal. In your options check the box that says "always renegotiate deals". With this on, and you have a ROP with someone, after 20 turns, the AI diplomacy screen will automatically pop up with that deal (ROP in this case) already "on the table". If the AI wants to continue it, they will say something along the lines of "Yes? Can I help you?" And all you do is just offer the deal up again and they'll take it. If they don't want it, they'll give the old "We feel it is time for this deal to expire." So this does work every time, no matter what the AI wants.

Also, more on topic. Caravans were the single most annoying thing about Civ2 IMO, I hated them, with a passion, and was SO glad to see them gone in Civ3. I much much MUCH prefer the way trade is done in Civ3. I like micromanagement (to a degree), but caravans were annoying.

Also, no voices please. And if they are put in, please PLEASE give me the option to turn them off or even better, an option not to install them to begin with. Talk about an efficient way to ruin a good game. Can you imagine having to listen to those over and over and OVER again with no option to turn them off? I'm thinking suicide would quickly become an option for many Civ fans.

Why not? They are cute the first time (if well done) you hear them say a quote. The fiftieth time it's real annoying. By the hundredth time, you are ready to uninstall the game just to get them to STFU. And this is if they are well done. If (like most games) they are done poorly, you will feel this way after the second time you hear it.

well, I see the point, but I always thought in some games like starcraft and warcraft, that the voices added to the game. I guess you would need to have enough different voices to make it interesting, which I think would add little to the game.

Well, Blizzard is one of the few who did this fairly well. How many times did I listen to what they had to say, though? Once. Cute, but ultimately not a big deal. Imagine, however, if every time you did a diplomatic option in Civ that they started speaking. There are only so many diplomatic options and sayings now (pretty much one per possible response). They'd have to add a lot more possible options to make this worthwhile. (Plus modders will hate this as they'd need to record voices to make a good quality mod).

I like our ideas. I would like to add:
1: Problems whith POW should be taken into consideration. New improwments could be refugeecamps.

2: Our should be able to use your diplomacy to force peace deals.

3: minefields built by workers or destroyers

4: more ressources: Tobacco, slaves(cause bad world reputation and civil disorder)

most importantly i would like to add that YES the game is way to short. Nut instead of expanding the time frame further than 2050 the years should instead consist of fewer turns

Plaese help me getting an internet game started. My version is expansion gold pack play the world. my connection is 64 kb/sek cabel.
Everytime i try to launch a multiplayer game on the internet i get a message that says the host has cancelled the game... !!!!!!!!

In essence, the voice thing is spending a sizeable amount of ressources (especially once you consider translation) and disk space on something that :

1)Doesn't make the actual gameplay any better
2)Tend to get annoying fairly fast, unless even MORE ressources are spent on it
3)Is cute only once or twice before that
4)Makes modding harder.

That's why it's a Bad Idea (tm)
