I have a few questions:

first of all, how does this work? DO you play and submit the sav. file if you have a top score?

I looked at the rules, and for some, it seems like it is easy to get away with cheating...is there a way to verifty certain things, is this like a trust thing? For example, for "You may enter a seed number for the map only if you have not used that seed before in the game or the editor for a map with similar settings," how can this be regulated? Or, for instance, you can't know if somebody reloads...

Also, how does score work? Is it added by every turn? average? Also, it seems the longer you stay it, the better your score will be...so am I right to think that to get a good score, you must try to stay in the game while avoiding for yourself, or for an opponant to win. For example, winning by Culture, it is hard to stop yourself if you have a lot of cities with certain imporvments...

DOes map size make much a difference in score. Of course, witha larger map, you can have more people, and cities, and so forth, but is the value of them less?

Finally, can this be done with conquests, or only vanilla and PTW for now?

Well, hi there.

First, read the sticky HoF thread - it tells u u can play most versions - vanilla, PTW, C3C..

Second, cheating, reloading, and the like are also described in that thread, and most things (including reloading, I understand) CAN be found by looking at the submitted SAV files.
I sure hope they look.

About score - there is a great simple explaination at:

Yes, you must submit your save games, usually your 4000BC, 10AD and the last turn before you win the game.

Well, in some case it may be, but then certain methods of cheating will leave a mark on your game that are blaringly obvious.

Yes some things can be verified & yes, a level of integrity is expected.

For example, for "You may enter a seed number for the map only if you have not used that seed before in the game or the editor for a map with similar settings," how can this be regulated?

That feature is included so the exact same map can be generated on two sperate machines and therefore two people can play the exact same map and measure against each other, this feature will give no benefit over practicing a starting postion and re-starting from scratch with prior knowledge of the game. If you feel the need to do this in a competative manner then your a sad individual with psychcological problems. And you probably cheat when playing Patience by yourself with a pack of cards. You are only cheating against yourself, or is there a $100,000 prize fund up for grabs that I'm missing??

Or, for instance, you can't know if somebody reloads...

Your overall score is the average of your score on each turn. Im sure there are plenty of people here who will give you a far more mathematical and scientific answer to this question but thats the basic premise.

Yes and No. One aspect of score is that you get an early finish bonus. Because of this there are two game plans to employ - you either play on a tiny map and go for an early conquest, therofore getting a massive early finish bonus, or you play on a huge map and milk the game for every last point that you can, by getting as much territory below the domination limit and as many happy citizens as possible, as early as possible and for as long as possible.

The huge milking option will gain higher scores, but at a much greater investment of time.

Finally, can this be done with conquests, or only vanilla and PTW for now?

The versions/patches allowed are stated in the rules thread.
