Last week, I posted a new strategy guide for Mvemba a Nzinga of the Kongo civilization:
http://www.megabearsfan.net/post/2017/08/08/Civ-VI-Mvemba-a-Nzinga-strategy.aspx
Again, this one took a bit longer than I was hoping it would take because Kongo turned out to be a much more powerful and complex civilization than I initially thought. I feel like I've only scratched the surface with this particular civ and leader.
A brief summary of the guide:
Kongolese cities have access to unique neighborhoods relatively early in the game, each of which provides food and housing. This, combined with bonus food and production from relics, artifacts, and scultpures, can allow Kongolese cities to grow very large and very productive, very quickly. Try to get a couple scouts out into the field so that you can look for villages and hopefully acquire a relic or two. If you don't find your own relic, you can always try to capture one from somebody else.
Mvemba a Nzinga cannot build holy sites, acquire prophets, or found a religion. He can, however, found a pantheon, and something like Fertility Rites can be a good way to help your cities grow even faster. Not being able to build Holy Sites or participate in the religion rat race also leaves Mvemba a Nzinga free to construct campuses, theaters, and commercial hubs earlier in the game. And don't neglect Entertainment Complexes, as you'll need amenities to keep your large populations happy. If you get someone else's religion, then completing a theater or Mbanza will grant a free Apostle. I recommend taking the Martyr promotion and sending your Apostle out to die in theologic combat, which guarantees that you get a relic.
Avoid cutting down your rainforests, as your unique Mbanza neighborhood requires rainforest or woodlands. Later in the game, you can replant woods, so cutting them down to rush wonders or clear land for districts is OK.
If conquest isn't your thing, then Kongo is one of the strongest culture players in the game. Kongo gets 50% more points towards great writers, artists, musicians, and merchants. You should be loaded down with great works and artifacts. Try to make sure you get any sculptor artists that show up, as sculptures provide more benefit.
If you're playing against Mvemba a Nzinga, and are going for a religious victory, then he can be an excellent proxy for your victory. He'll be happy to receive your religion in his cities, and will actively spread it for you. Of course, if you found a religion and don't get a missionary to his cities in two turns flat, his agenda will cause him to hate your guts, so don't leave any openings for him to mount an opportunistic invasion during the time between founding a religion and getting your missionaries into his cities.
Feel free to check out the full strategy in the link above. As always, I welcome feedback. So if you have any other tips, tricks, or strategies for Kongo / Mvemba a Nzinga, I would love to hear them!
I also have strategies for :
Tomyris of Scythia
Gligamesh of Sumeria
