A is for Aztec

Thanks - I'll need it for space...

Regarding aggression level move up... this comment belongs here... I don't know Darski. I think it depends somewhat on what victory condition you want to shoot for. You could probably do it with The Celts since you'll have your Gallic Swordsman to go out and whack the AIs. China seems like a decent choice for this also. Since you probably won't sign RoPs (they probably won't work for your Warlord games, since you almost surely have a power lead early on in the game until the end), whenever you do this I'd suggest you play for conquest/domination... unless you feel bored and just want to fight lots of defensive wars.

Maybe I'll do this sort of thing, but in reverse order with OCC games, or 5CC games and OCC games at Emperor probably.

I would be interested in seeing how this works out for your play style with these conditions.

Oh and about the ROP's... I have been using them in the last couple of games after the Rex is over.

Re: the aggression level, I think I might raise it for my Celts game. they could probably stand the increased military pressure.

Well it had to come sooner or later... the dreaded "English Game" is next. I have never played them since I got my C3C game and only twice before that in Vanilla.

We will see how it all works out. :p

Starting with Alph is nice for my Rep slingshot so it can't be all bad.

OOPS! I lied. I still have to play Egypt (my bad)

The English got a real boost in Conquests.

They're still slow starters, but once established what makes them so strong I find is the amount of gold they're generating: Commercial = extra gold in city centres + less corruption, while Seafaring = extra gold in coastal towns. Those advantages stack, and that means lots of gold.
Seafaring can also give you lots of gold through early intercontinental trading, of course.
Good for Spaceship, the English. Not good for an early war.
I'm not so happy about the Golden Age timing of the English, it's either too early or late. Both Colossus and Lighthouse will trigger one on their own, too early I find, and the Man O War comes quite late, at the end of the Medieval Age.
The Man O War is nice. Try to stack them, then when you see an enemy ship you can bombard first, redline, then use your last ship to attack, and cross your fingers for the 1 in 3 chance of an enslavement. Naval warware is rarely the crucial part of a civ game, but with the English it's at least fun.

Of course you shouldn't choose a Pangaea or only 60% water map, but I expect the English Conquest style might surprise you in a positive way.

OOPS! Forgot about the Egyptians! Err...now I need to think of a new story, something with Chariots or such.

As Optional said, the English are the commerce queens of Conquests (say that three times fast.) You can translate that into a great tech lead, especially on a Archipelago map. I find that they a good civ for a Diplomatic vic. It doesn't hurt that I got three SGL's from my last game as them, either. (of course, I just finished a space game as Russia, probably researched forty tech's first and didn't get a single SGL...ain't the pRNG grand?)

As for Egypt, I hear they're good for a 100K culture game. Enjoy the Chariots.

Only time I've tried a 100k on Monarch was with Cleo. Worked like a champ, although I found it a bit boring after loading up the basic infrastructure. However, that's just me. I'll try it again sometime & see if I can shorten it somehow--actually, I feel it was compromised by my having to spank a rival pretty severely to make sure I got 2X the culture, as well as 100k. It's more sporting to do it with minimal warring, IMHO.

If you don't build both Smith's and Newton's with the English, then David Hume will laugh at you.

This Egyptian game is 'most interesting'. So far we have eliminated the Vikings and the Greeks. Interesting screenshots to follow

I made my "most notorious Civ blunder" in this game. I hate to declare war.

I am next to the Ottomans and I have been very nice to them for the whole game. At one point, early on, I said to myself, "Self, you have to wipe out those Ottomans right away!"

I didn't do it and now they are likely about ready for the dreaded Sipahis. I am going to pay for that wussiness and I am dreading going back to the game. Well I am all defended up at the border but this is where the ROP can come back to bite you.

Who needs defense when you can have a Wonder. We need to introduce these guys to Ision

I don't know what got into the Greek water but they sure weren't playing on all cylinders...

It would seem that they did not build a single barracks. all of the Hoplites were regs as well. They fell faster than you can say "Jack Robinson".

 Yeah, they'll do that. If you look here, you'll see a post from CBob01. The Arabs had 3 cities left, were at war with us, and were the last civ on the planet aside from us. So what brilliant strategy did the AI choose? Starting Shakespeare's and Newton's in 2 of its 3 remaining cities. . . .

Aye, but think: the Temple of Artemis will put a temple in literally every flippin town or city throughout the entire with of their empire, which means the whole of errr.. Trondheim, so the investment of a mere 500 shields will gain them a staggering amount of 1 whole temple! Not even to mention the culture points they're gaining. Ragnar Lodbrok is smart!

It looks like you don't put all that much commerce into research Darski. On Warlord you can easily out-tech the AIs... so have I missed your strategy somewhere?

The one for the Greeks, I had just gotten the last tech and had not yet changed the science rate.

Some times, I want to go slowly on research to stock up some cash but generally, early on, I find it hard to keep science going.

The reason that I am playing at Warlord is because I don't have a strategy. My point has always been that I do not have a strategic mind. ( My two kids loved to play Stratego against me because it was an easy win for them  )

if I had a mind, I would be playing at Regent right now. ... You'll notice that it is not happening.

Well this is annoying.

My French game was doing the deep six the whole time.

I had only one city that could get anything together to build the Great Lighthouse. so I figured.. Why not. As the French, I don't get that nice seafaring bonus that Liz had.

Well finally in 900 AD the rest of the world decides to start building TGL and after I spent about 2,000 trying to get it built, I lost it by 3 turns. the Dutch built it 5 turns after they started.

I just ditched that game. It was going no where the entire time. I couldn't get out of despostism because I was in despotism... IYKWIM.

I'll start another French game tomorrow. I deleted all the saves as even the memory of that game needs to be removed from the universe.
