Is it possible for someone out there to overhaul the resource/trade interface?
basically, when you make a stone quarry, it produces a trade resource every so often. In order to use the resource, it must be shipped to the city in question and "deposited." Build around that. Add trains that must stay on th railroads, llama caravans that expertly traverse the hills, barges which carry massive amounts of resources, and raiders and pirates to steal them.
