I'm playing a game (as the Roman Empire) that has yet to develop, I'm still in the expansion and exploration phase. After one of my turns, I recieved a message that said,"Chinese and Mongols sign the "Nishapur Pact" to contain Roman agression." What does this mean? How will it affect the game?

Welcome to the board, Endry.

Very basically, once you reach a certain level on the powergraph (the chart/graph you see as you end a game) relative to the other civs in your game, you will find that just about all of the remaining civilizations will begin to form pacts against your "aggression". This will even be the case if you have been on friendly terms with some of them. The thought is that this is programmed into the game to make the AI a greater challenge to a skillful human player - one whose civ becomes more powerful compared to the rest. Andu Indorin has written a very detailed piece on what factors affect your powergraph rating and I believe you can find it in the "war academy" on this main site.

What this means is that you are probably doing well in your game. However, if you end up attacking a civ that has a pact with another, those other civs will also declare war on you. You will likely also find that these rivals will also begin to share all of their technology as well.

Don't sweat it, however. The AI is really pretty incapable of launching a coordinated attack against you, so I would just keep playing as normal - you're obviously doing something right. Just keep these things in mind as you contemplate attacks and diplomacy.

I am sure that others here will add to/correct some of the things I've written, but that's the beauty of this site: more information than you ever thought possible.

Your doing great!!!! now what i do in this situation is pay a vist to one of the civs that signed this "pact" and bribe them to declare war against their sworn alliance. he he he! there by swevering the tech swaping that comes along with these computer allainces. keep it up the good work though it sounds like you have the AI on it's heels!!! Viva la Roma!!!!!!!!1

Great! Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I'll do my reading and dive right back into the game.

Well this just mean that the comp is scared of you now and that you are on your way to achieving superpower status. I remember it one of my game that i was play as my custom tribe (the Hexenians) and i was pretty much in control of all of eurasia. Then some one got killed off and the vikings appeared in australia. when i was launching a campaign in central africa to help the carthagians out, the Zulu were pretty much losing it. So i started a new campaign in indonesia and took land from the vikings who had made it all the way to the philipines. The next thing i new i got a messenge that said Zulu and Vikings sign the 'Ulundi Pact.' i was pretty shock to see two comps that share a mutual enemy but were on two different continents ally. But i thought no big deal i'm a first world super power. a couple of turns later i got another messenge "Vikings and Zulu cancel alliance" then "Viking and Zulu cancel peace treaty" i was cracking up to see this here they were fighting the most powerful nation on the planet and they turn against each other. Well any way i won by landing on AC and conquering the world.
