A problem with my monitor

The monitor of one of my computers broke. It doesn't work any more.
I want to copy some files from this computer through the local network. But i have one problem. I can't make the computer load the windows so i can copy the files. I think it's becasue there is no monitor and the computer stops loading on the hardware check...
Can you give me some advice how to solve this problem ?

There's no monitor check or the like on boot, PCs are just fine with no monitor - I have several that normall run with no monitor, I just use VNC to get to them for normal stuff.

Easiest thing would be to use your other monitor on the problem PC to figure out exactly what's going on, then you can transfer the files over the network like you planned.

Hm what is your OS. I am with win98 on that PC. it's rather old And i am almost certain that there is check for the hardware and the monitor too..
My monitor was damaged for a long time. I mean i couldn't use it but it worked. It was just showing some lines and you could see nothing. But the computer booted normanly. And the the monitor blowed. And after this the computer can't boot

oh, and I can't use the monitor from the other Pc, it's laptop

Currently WinXP Pro, Win2000, Win Vista (32 & 64 bit), Mandriva 2006 and Knoppix on my various comps, but I routinely work with stuff as old as Win95 and do that with no problems.

You're going to need to borrow a monitor from a friend/relative or somebody, unless you just want to buy a new one. It could be any stupid little reason that the PC hangs on boot, but you won't know for sure until you can see...

If computer can't boot, then computer is broke, not the monitor.

It may not be the monitor, but rather the video card, which WILL cause a boot failure. Long ago, you used to be able to tell by the beep codes during POST, but I don't know if new systems still do it.

Google Post Codes and the name/model of you computer. I've got a few at work that will kick them out, and they're fairly new.

I fear tha i can't do this . My computer has no name/model It's "home made" if i can say so. It's put together from different components
I'll have to find a monitor form somewhere and find what's the problem

Oh, and btw it's not on the topic, but while i was posting tis replay a pop-up appeared. Is this normal ? I haven't seen pop ups before in this site.

There should be no popups in the forums. You can use an existing thread in Site Feedback to report the popup. Please include a screen shot of the top and bottom banner ads so that TF can report the offending ad.

As for it being home made, I would still do the google search. Subsititute your motherboard make/model for the computer name, and you should still get hits on it. That's assuming you're receiving beeps when it's booting. If you're not, I would try both another graphics card or monitor and see which part failed.
