So, my friend has Civ5 GnK and no DLCs. Will the "gold upgrade" work for him even though he already owns GnK? I don't want to end up with a useless purchase.
It would work for him to get all the DLC's included in the Gold Edition, yes. You might want to make sure that all that DLC is worth it though, might be cheaper (I didn't do the math) to just grab the civs + wonder pack, and leave the map packs be.
