A small chopping tip

I always thought that when you chopped a forest, the hammers go to the closest city, with ties broken by ... size? founding date?

Anyway, I found out last night that if the forest is in the fat cross of two cities, you can control which city gets the hammers: whichever city has access to the tile (it's lit up within the city screen; if it's dark, the other city currently has access, but you can switch it by clicking on it).

Has this always been true, and it just took me two years to notice?

peace,

This has always been true, it just took you two years to notice. I always check to see where the chops will go when chopping outside of BFCs and cities are tied in distance. It tends to be first city founded(or one with most culture) regardless of size. I haven't been able to definatively prove this however.

It took me until the BtS expansion to even realize I had choice of which city gets to work the tile if their crosses overlap. >.<

This took a while for me to notice too. Thanks to these forums, I have known it for a while now =P

And thx lilnev, didn't know this one either. I always thought it's the closest one getting the chop and founding date breaking the ties.

Yep, same here. The chopping I did not know either but is less usefull because I usually keep a forest that is shared. That's health for both cities. I even use them for a forest preserve if I don't really need the prduction (only one can work it but both get the hapiness!).

I just noticed this in my current game about the forests sharing health bonuses. Didn't think about the happiness being shared from forest preserve. Some ideas I'll have to consider more when founding cities.
