I have replied to Giefer about the Editor and the new patch and kinda asked similar questions there....However, perhaps by posting a new thread some Mac genious may be able to help....I am using a 2nd generation imac, 128 mem, 333 mhz and 9.2.2 I have OS X but had problems using it. Is OS X
too much for this machine too handle? Should I go ahead and install X in order to use this "Editor" ? Personally, 8.6 worked the best ..(started with 8.5) and reluctanly went to 9 for certain features, mostly to do with gaming and new keyboard compatibility ect. And too, any idea when the new patch will come out? Will it solve sound and animation difficulties? CTP was a game I got on a whim and I found it pretty cool, so I got Civ 3 which I thought was CTP 2 . (which I found out they don't make for mac. The over the net play was slow , but fun, and no one uses it on CTP anymore.) The Editor sounds good for maqeing up units and goverments and such but if it is mostly for maps...i would not care too much...Who is "Brad" , sounds like he is some kind of brain...hats off to you guys that can figure this stuff out and create,
...very artistic ...almost a last vestige of individual creative power left (asides from some sort of oddity) here in the states......

Brad Oliver works for Westlake Interactive, which is the company that ported Civ3 to the Mac, so yes, he's the genius here for sure. Be nice to the guy. We want to see a patch in our lifetimes :smoke:

From my experience, 128M is a little light for Civ3 to work really well, and I'm not sure about X on a 333 imac. Haven't had a chance to play with it much yet, and it's not installed on my home machine at this time....

I appreciate the response. Without anything to compare the graphics to, i do not know how well this imac fares against more vid savy machines. It plays civ 3 ok so far, no crashes, no long wait time (maybe at the end of a game on large/huge map). I am now using 9.2.2 ....maybe i'll try to put X on again or ...perhaps i'll wait for more info....

Depending on your budget, I think that your 128 RAM could be boosted at some stage to give you increased throughput. For me, changing to OS X was one of the best things I ever did for my iMac (500 MHz/384 RAM--increased just prior to the upgrade). I'm not sure about your 333MHz and how that engine handles OS X, but would imagine that more RAM would give you most of its benefits.

The only downside has been a gradual reluctance to revert to the Classic mode in oder to play some of my previous favourites: Total Anihilation; Caesar III. All of my current favourites (Civ3; Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire; and Starcraft/Brood War) are available for OS X. I have to launch Classic when I want to use Word/EndNote for writing, but am starting to use Appleworks 6.2. as a substitute for smaller pieces.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

For what it's worth, I run OSX on a Gossamer G3 (Beige G3 233 model) with 384 MB RAM.

CIV III works great on it. my only complaint is how long it takes for a turn to pass when you're playing with 15 civilizations ::chuckles::

I _highly_ recommend at least 256 RAM for running OSX. I had a beige G3/333 that ran OSX/CivIII just fine. I have upgraded to a G4/400 and still enjoying CivIII.
