Having seen two prominent Youtubers try this experiment I decided to try it for myself (as Inca). I prepared a map (small/primeval) and put a tribal village on every hex. It was insane. I kept getting an extra population, and having few cities to start, their total population became crazy- it was like 15/2 with respect to housing. By the end of the ancient era I had tech boosts for every tech up to future tech.
I was choking with free scouts and free builders, but the scouts eventually upgraded to Warak'aq, which simply swarmed over enemy cities and pelted them into the ground. (Especially with the promotion that gives you +20 combat strength). By 100 BC I was building my first bombers, I was suzerain of every CS and had 25 envoys in reserve. But moving so many units just became too tedious.
It's fun to try. Once.
