I'd like to put in a request to alter the values of the cruise missile and some of the artillery in the game without some know-it-all giving the "but you can change it in the editor" answer, for once.
Cruise missiles need longer range (4? 6?), and be able to be loaded into ships. Probably not battleships, but subs, destroyers and cruisers, definitely. Aside from loading, they should be able to be fired from sea.
Arty should have lethal bombardment, as should bombers. Radar arty should have an increased range also. Damage across the board I don't have a problem with, but it definitely needs a range boost.
A long-range strategic bomber unit, ala B-52, available with the Jet Fighter, is long overdue. Damage for this unit should be increased from the normal B-29-ish unit that we have now. I would also REALLY like to see escort missions for fighters: send 'em in with a bomber to take out enemy fighters so the bomber could get through. I think using the principle of the stack movement command would do the trick, here, or possibly a mission button that, when selected, links the fighter to a bomber to escort...
Perhaps it is time to re-evaluate the chopper unit. This mini-air transport is cute, but attack choppers are conspicuous by absence.
AAA. Would it be too much to ask for an air defense unit available with replaceable parts? Something like the SAM, but mobile?
And lastly, being as I just went through half a pot of coffee trying to make this PTW patch work, have the No AI Patrol as a check button in the preferences.
I know: a lot of these are supposedly able to be fixed with the editor. I've always found that answer to be condescending. That's like me saying to someone, "Oh, just port and polish your heads, throw in a new cam, and put on a larger mass airflow sensor after you get rid of that stupid 4-cat H-pipe." If everyone --or at least the majority-- agrees that bombers, arty, and the like need assistance, then doesn't it have merit to rethink their values in the game?
