Microsoft & Compaq were having a rowing-competition. Microsoft losed it by crush.
Gates hired 500 consults, each paid 7500 $/Month to solve the problem. With 3 months,
the consults were solved it. Microsoft was the loser, because Compaq was using in 10-
an boat 9 rowers and 1 leader. Microsoft were having 1 rower and 9 leaders.
Gates solved the problem and called a rerun with the competition. Now Microsoft were
having 1 leader, 8 consults and 1 rower on their boat, when Compaq were having the same
crew. Microsoft losed again by crush. Final result was that Gates fired all rowers.

I have a mildeer opinion on the subject.
Microsoft Windows is a great invention if you take it for what it is and what it accomplished for the millions of users who don't have programming skills.
Microsoft boosted the use of computers.
Maybe it's commercial politics aren't the best but I think their products are very good for office tasks.
If it was so crappy, why doesn't anyone find a better solution ?
Linux based programs aren't that easy to use yet (I tried it on my PC)

hmmm, the problem with MS, is its Monopoly position. If programmers would only just start programming for Linux, the world would be a better place.
The problem with Windows is that it is TOO graphic, sure DOS is just ****ing hard to use, windows, although is 'user freindly' i reckon that if people got off thier lazy arses and learnt how to actually use a computer, then windows wouldn't be needed.
THe reason i don't use Linux is coz there is no good programs for it, (ok, i'll face it, Microsoft Office programs are EXTREMELY good)

You can get Star Office for free for Linux. It's not as good as Microsoft Office but it does the same things....and is free. (And built-in to some versions of Linux!!)

You can also get free Corel Wordperfect 8 for Linux, and it works just like the windows version. (although the deluxe version will cost you.)
Your just lazy that's all.

A true MicroSoft hater would be all over linux like a cheap hooker.

The fact the a Power PC chip is generally faster than Intel or AMD processor of the same speed notwithstanding, I dislike MacOS for its inefficient memory management; there is no reason why Macs can't outperform PCs. I haven't, however, seen MacOS X (the Mac GUI running on a UNIX client), but have heard horror stories about its delay ("vaporware"). The release of the “sensationally new” Windows XP may be halted with recent legal developments, but, IMHO, Windows 9.x, 2000, etc., are variants of MacOS 7-8 without the WIMP (a popular acronym) environment hardwired into the ROM. Indeed, MS is ostensibly trying to sweep DOS under the rug; DOS 8.0 can’t even run in real-mode and won’t make system disks (otherwise, it’s no different from version 7.0).

But to encapsulate my assessment of the OS war, I'm really sick of this ruminative "Micros$ft sucks and Bill Gates is Lucifer" horsesh*t. Apple is the genuine "evil empire", filing lawsuits contra Digital Research, HP and MS for propagating other graphical OSes. Had they succeeded legally, mainly in the protracted 1988 debacle on the basis of copyright infringement, sad, sad reverberations would've transpired. I HATE APPLE!

"Macintoy", "Macintrash", "point-and-drool interface", and "WIMP Environment" are all chronicled in the dictionary of well-known computer jargon.

Nevertheless, I also hate the revulsion of MS Internet Explorer, which is as difficult to uninstall as doing Victorian plumbing. I still use IE V, as it is faster than Mozilla's latest version, but the fact that it was "integrated" with the Windows shell and is compulsory perturbs me. The former renders system performance slower by a margin of at least 10%…

EDIT: Came to check reprisals, surprised to find none. Replaced "fisher price macs" ( here ) with a more appropriate pic in addition to correcting a run-on-sentence...

Im currently using my mums computer, which has, unfortunatly MS gear on it... but ****, im selling all my computer games, (which ofcourse require windows) and im not using any MS gear in the future.

THe computer i use at the moment, runs WinME. You can't even restart it in DOS mode... ****ing nazis(the only way is to create a boot disk), and i've been reading things about WinXP which seems even more nazi.

They are changing their license system now.Normally ,you had to buy a license once for every computer that had Windows running on it,and you got a price-cut on newer versions.But recently they just decided that these licenses are not valuable anymore.Now everybody has to pay ,every year a big amout of money.

There are ways to "get even" with the Evil Empire, but I won't spread them even though I dispise the M$ rape of the world.

Few companies in the history of America deserve bankruptsy and disbandment as much as M$ does. They have destroyed many honest companies on their way "up". Consumers should eschew M$ and simply use Linux or Apple systems <img src="icon12.gif" border="0"> . But we're sort of stuck, because of the "chicken and the egg" issue... cand get rid of M$ because our customers, government, schools, etc. use it.

Problem is that in the computer industrie standard's are very important.Especialy in the O.S market ,software industries need a comman platform.microsoft was the first o set the standards ,and everybody folowed them.

I sincerely hope they dont set a fee on the use of Tcp/Ip.Could you think of it ,a cent for evey package send?
