Abandoning cities

Is there a way to do it? I'm trying to win with one city without restricting the AI to the same number but my culture gains me cities.

I don't know about abandoning cities, but I think the one city challenge option restricts you to one city, not the computer.

There is no way to abandon cities, you can only raze them if you conquer them.Perhaps you can give them to the former AI owner back? Or if this isn't possible, to another AI...

BTW, have you tried the "One city challenge"-option? The restriction applies only to you, they AIs will play a normal game!
