All of this is taken with permission from Plotinus' brilliant scenario for Civ3. Essentially I want to create what he did for Civ, but rather than the restrictions of a A.I, you will be battling with your fellow man!

human-slaughter is having a dabble with the ruleset. I am thinking some evolution Fëanor showed us in FëuroNES: Let's Get Medieval.

This is the map we will be using: (The dots are modern city location just to help initial placement)

With this I hope to add the most basic rivers and mountainous areas, as well as the capital for all nations concerned. Those nations will be pulled from this map:

.................................

Ok. So what else do I need help with?

Backgrounds/stats etc.

Here is an example of the stats:

Nation: Kent (NPC)
Government: Monarchy (Ethelbert of Kent)
Capitol: Canterbury
Religion: Pagan
Income: 1 Gold
Army: 500 Footmen
Navy: None
Loyalty: Balanced
Projects: None
Color: Royal Blue
Description: Jute invaders who sailed across the North Sea to raid and invade Great Britain from the late fourth century onwards. They dealt with the native Celtic people with a variety of displacment, absorbtion and destruction.
Please for now assume i will tweak income/army/navy.. but if you can fill the rest it would be great! :) Don't worry about Ireland tho.

The Challenge

The year is AD 480. Nearly seventy years have passed since the Roman legions were withdrawn from Britannia. The island, rich and unprotected, has been invaded by wave upon wave of barbarians from northern Europe – Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Danes. They have conquered or assimilated the Romano-British peoples of the south and east of Britannia. A new era dawns.

As the warlord of one of the new Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, you must struggle for supremacy with your fellow invaders. Each lord is desperate to carve out an empire in the new lands. There will be battles and wars ahead the like of which this island has never seen before – but there will be glory and honour. For a warrior wins renown in battle, and through conquest comes prosperity and the establishment of a lasting culture. Each warlord dreams of being pronounced Bretwalda – the overking of all of Britannia. But few will achieve it.

The land of Britannia is rich, flowing with many rivers, covered in game-rich forests. But land is scarce, and there is competition. To the north is the land of the Picts, a powerful, warlike people, able to mobilise great forces from their highland retreats. To the west are the remaining Romano-British kingdoms – old, secure, and powerful. You cannot challenge them yet – but you can spread and develop faster than they can. Their age is waning, and a new age is coming.

And greater powers stir beyond the seas. In the far west is the land of Ireland, an ancient culture, never conquered by the Romans. There still flickers the flame of antiquity and the learning of the ancients. Ireland could yet extend its cultural sway over the whole of Britannia. From Ireland, and from the European continent to the south, rumours reach you of a new religion – the Christian faith. At some point you will have to contend with missionaries who will seek to convert you and your kingdom. Christianity offers cultural and educational prizes beyond imagination. Will you raise the sign of the Rood – the Cross – throughout your lands, or would you do better to keep to the faith of your forefathers, and honour the pagan gods through battle and glory?

And to the east, rumours grow of another power – a mighty people who sail over the ocean in dragon-prowed ships, wielding great axes, seeking plunder and spoils. Build your kingdom quickly and root it in strength – for the Vikings will surely put it to the greatest test.

Your people have invested you with power and honour. Will you repay them in kind? Will you rise to the challenge? Will you win glory on the battlefield and blessings from On High? Will you seize the title of Bretwalda – or will you die in the attempt?

The banner at the top of this thread is by Asclepius. Thanks!

Yeah sure, tho prices will be fluctuated accordingly so don't expect big changes if you divide it too much.

Army/Navy prbly needs quality/training level/whatever

Yes and no. It will not be a stat open to everyone else, but I will hint at improvments made in updates. If you spend on improving your army, i will note it. Better yet if you make a project of it I will also bear it in mind.

Can I take Wessex?

Nation: Wessex
Government: Monarchy (King Cerdic)
Capitol: Dorchester-on-Thames
Religion: Pagan
Income: 1 Gold
Army: 500 Footmen
Navy: None
Loyalty: Balanced
Projects: None
Color: Gold
Description: Jute invaders who sailed across the North Sea to raid and invade Great Britain from the late fourth century onwards. They dealt with the native Celtic people with a variety of displacment, absorbtion and destruction.

Tried to keep it historically accurate but the Kingdom of Wessex did not become documented in detail till the 630s. So capital may be way off if you know of a capital of Wessex from an ealier time please tell me so I can update this. Note in this world the people of Wessex arrived 15 years early.

Mercia for me ;)

Nation: Mercia
Government: Monarchy (Creoda)
Capitol: Tamworth
Religion: Pagan
Income: 1 Gold
Army: 500 Footmen
Navy:
Loyalty: Balanced
Projects: None
Color: Purple

Prices should fluctuate, but i prefer to recruit individual people not units... which given the level of organisation in England at the time would seem kind of silly ;)

Yeah sure. There isn't too much completely accurate data around for this time, but we will go with what we can get :) Can you find any information about your king and add it to the description would be good :)

Description please (suitably short please!) Also, think we have lost each other a bit with prices.

What I meant was that obvious if 1000 gold = 500 men... well you could spend 500 gold and get 250 men, and then spend the rest building a fort. BUT the fort would only be 250gold worth of defence, compared to someone who spent 500.

So sure you can split your income, but it will mean more, but smaller results.

An yes, we will not have it as 1 infanty division = 1 gold, more 1,000 gold = 1000 men or something.

i'll work out a conversion rate later!

I can't view the first map.

Anyone else having that problem?

It's just a blank UK map from the web (so don't worry about what it is!).. its not been uploaded by myself.

I will upload an editted version once i get around to it. (unless someone is really awesome and put rivers on it for me!!!

I'll Join!

How About this?

1000 Gold = 1000 Peasent Adventurers
1000 Gold = 600 Tribal Warriors
1000 Gold = 400 Legionarries (Britons)
1000 Gold = 200 Something
250 Gold = Special units (trophy takers? groups of longbow men? seige weapons?)

That above is good enough for stories, with the power exchange rate at about 500 per 1000. Better soldiers are good for smashing defenses but more is good for overwhelming them.

romans as in the Celto Romao tribes of the West.

Romans are dead.

Look into Plotinus' mod for different units.

All Anglo-Saxon kingdoms? Had just started creating a nation for myself all set up near Aberdeen before noticing that :(

May give this one a shot regardless though, if you don't mind?

I did the first time I loaded the page, but a quick refresh solved it for me.

Kan'! :D

Take a look at the second map.. there are lots of "nations" all over the British Isles.. I am sure there is one near to Aberdeen for you to take over :D

Well: It says in what I think in Wales 'Western' Briton-Romaeo or some such and I think they will retain SOME of the stuff... Oh well. Your NES. I will enjoy it non-the-less. Please consider the ratio

1-1 Levies
1-0.6 British Normal
1-0.4 Briton/Ireland Normal
1-0.2 Stonger Unit.
Because in my experiance with small games with friends that is quite balanced.

I assumed those were just province names (with the possible exception of Lothian, but who would want to be them!) and the names in red were the nations playable.

Will take a proper look tomorrow though :)
