If you want to use a system that works just like Windows, use Windows.

If you want to try/use something different, be prepared for a learning curve. (FWIW, for me the learning curve for Linux was less than the learning curve going from Win2000 to XP.)
 
Currently, there is no Windows-like OS that is not Windows.

ReactOS is probably exactly what you're looking for, but it isn't a finished product. In fact, it's nowhere near finished.
 
I made the switch to Linux about a year ago, and don't regret a thing. I started with Ubuntu, and I found it pretty easy. The Ubuntu support forums are very good. I would start with a dual boot system, and ease into Linux at your own pace. The biggest thing to remember is that Linux is not free Windows, many things are different, mostly for the best in my opinion.

For what it's worth if you want something like windows then just use windows. You've already paid for the license anyway so you might as well use it. Besides there's no faster way to earn the wrath of a linux help forum than to ask them why can't it be more like windows.

I personally wouldn't use OS X. macs are just priced much higher than I find reasonable.

and if you don't go with windows, apple, linux you're either stuck with the BSDs or something I've never heard of.
 
If you'd like to try Linux without actually installing, you can always download Knoppix and boot from it.

Knoppix, PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu, Mandriva, ... these are all available as 'live-cd' versions, that you can boot into and run in RAM, without touching your existing hard drive. If they identify your hardware, and work reasonably well (they will run rather slowly, since the entire OS is loaded into your PC's memory space), you can install them to your hard drive, either as a dual-boot with Windows (you choose which to use on each boot) or as a replacement for Windows.
