About the magic system

Im new to the whole Magic system in FFH2 and I cant locate any guides or info regarding exactly how it works. For example today I used an adept who now has the power to perform lets just call it promotion X spell on other units. Now do these promotions expire after a certain number of turns OR are they permanent?

It depends on the promotion. Some are permanent, some wear off randomly, some wear off after combat, some wear off when the unit is fully healed, etc.

It generally says if they expire in the tool-tip somewhere, like if you mouse-over the promotion.
