I've got Civ3 Complete on order for my iBook G4.

I am wondering what patches/updates/mods might be necessary in order to have the game running at a premium level. I don't really know a lot about this particular topic, and some basic advice would be useful.

I'm not really looking for fan-created units, or other sorts of fan-modifications to the basics of Civ, but more for anything that may aleviate any bugs or assist the basic software to run as good as possible.

Hi, welcome :wavey:

There's not a lot you can do except hold your breath for the first patch to be released, any time now :p (We've been holding our breath for upwards of six months now, so we're all turning very blue!)

Until the patch you may experience some or all of the following:

- Few/no unit sound effects. Probably the most noticeable issue.

- Poor compatibility with 3rd party mods, though you indicate that's not your interest.

- No saved file compression. Not an issue if you don't want to take part in shared games such as Play by Email or the local Games of the Month or Succession Games. Fixable using my FileValet utility - see my sig.

- Crashes with some saved games imported from PC users if they've been playing multi-player games. Again, FileValet will clean out the inciompatible data in those files.

- Crashes when completing a tech if you have another queued for research. The fix is: don't queue up research projects.

We really are expecting the patch shortly. It apparently left the Aspyr developer, Brad Oliver who posts here from time to time, a while ago. I suspect it has been stuck in the QA queue behind Civ4.

Watch this space and/or Inside Mac Games for news.

Greetings. I am running Civ3Complete on my Ibook G4 and not running into any significant problems. I have not run into the problem that Alan mentions of crashing in a research queue, and I have been queuing up to 9 techs at a time. Just make sure that you have about 512 megs of memory, and unfortunately, you do not get an editor for the Mac with the game.
