? about Trade Routes

Hello,

I have a quick question regarding how trade routes work. Are trade routes reciprocal? That is when I increase the number of trade routes I have (with Free Market etc.) does that create trade routes for the Civ I'm trading with?

I.e. Can engage in economic warfare by reducing the other Civs trade routes through mercantilism?

This is a C&C question because it helps me figure out how to make 'protectionism'.
