Hello fine members of the Civilization Fanatics community,

I just decided to start modding Civ 6 because i found it hillarous that with the finished research of ironworks, the basic warrior becomes unavailable even on a map without any iron (or in case of bad or to little iron placing). I didnt really know how, but i installed that developement tools and..looked through it and.watched those few modding videos on youtube but, i keep wonderhing how i do change this specific parts of the game..

like copy the part from the swordman wich makes it buildable (the mining of iron) to what makes the warrior unavailable (and remove the research of ironworks from that warrior part).

I kind of would have to aquire those settings from the game, to change and then put it in a mod package so the game knows how to use it, how to overwrite the vanilla part.

Is there anybody willing to grap my head, turn me in the right direction and gimme a little push so i know how to start with that project?

Or is this kind of change entirely impossible?

Best wishes,

Simpson3k

If this thing isnt changeable please let me know, i can take a "no its impossible" better than wasting my time attempting something that never can be finished. Or dont you like my picture..account name, my internet selfteached english or something else i didnt think of? XD

hahahahahaha your self-taught English is better than some people whose, allegedly, mother tongue is English.
Anyways, are you trying to have the Swordsman made available without the need for the Iron technology? I am not quite sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish

Oh, ok..i try to explain it more clear then :) Uhm say you finished researching bronze working and found out the only iron is in the enemy part of the map or at least nowhere near your own territory, not a single one. That would mean that as soon as you research iron works, you are unable to produce any more land melee units unless you conquered at least one single iron, correct? If you cant manage that, you are stuck to your few warriors from before finishing iron works till you hopefully have more luck with sulfur or what you needed for musceteer´s.

What i was trying to do is that as long as no iron is available, the warrior stays available to produce. That would make sense no? I mean no smith would so no to his leader "i refuse to equip those old warriors, give me iron or you never get any more melee military" :>

According to the vanilla code, the Warrior unit is available until you research Gunpowder.
Code:
<Row UnitType="UNIT_WARRIOR" BaseMoves="2" Cost="40" AdvisorType="ADVISOR_CONQUEST" BaseSightRange="2" ZoneOfControl="true" Domain="DOMAIN_LAND" FormationClass="FORMATION_CLASS_LAND_COMBAT" Name="LOC_UNIT_WARRIOR_NAME" Description="LOC_UNIT_WARRIOR_DESCRIPTION" PurchaseYield="YIELD_GOLD" PromotionClass="PROMOTION_CLASS_MELEE" Combat="20" MandatoryObsoleteTech="TECH_GUNPOWDER"/>

Hm i am pretty sure the warrior is removed from the production table as soon as the swordman (or its civ dependant special units) became available from iron works. In the same way the slinger gets removed when archery got researched. I mean your quoted code line tells what you said so..you speak the truth but unless i didnt only dream 131 hours of played civ 6..i am pretty sure i am speaking the truth aswell. weird..now i am confused.

Must be civilization dependent .... it shows up for me.

If you want them to be available permanently, you can make a replacement unit that never obsoletes. It would work the same way and act the same way and everything, but you could spam warriors and nukes at the same time ;).

The self taught English is good, though.
But is it as good as my self-taught XML? :p
