Does anyone know were i can get a copy of the crossfire expansion? i still have my cd's from when i bought the game at release but never could find the expansion.

is there a place were i can get a digital download?

I confirmed with CdromUSA that the product they are selling at this Amazon page includes the expansion (it is the SOS version that includes SecuROM).

This is a bit confusing.

The link to cdromusa in your first post shows it to be the Sold Out Software version.
The amazon link shows a different picture of the cd case (not the SOS version) but there is no mention of the Alien Crossfire Expansion anywhere on the Amazon product page. Is cdromUsa selling 2 different versions?

I have the SOS version but I never installed it because of the Securom.
I have heard that the company that makes SecuRom was ordered by a court to aid people in the removal of SecuRom, but I think it is asking for trouble to install it.

Here is my exchange of emails with CdromUSA:

Yes, it is.

We appreciate your business. Have a great day!

For everyone's info

If buying from Amazon and you choose the supplier "Galactics", you will receive a "Sold Out Software" version of the game with the Securom DRM scheme. I returned it with the notification to Amazon that the item picture/description does not give this information to the buyer.

What happens at Amazon is that sellers pick a page that is close to what they are selling (although a few have started new pages with the appropriate image).

So often the description and the image is not an exact match to what is being sold.

The Complete Collection can be bought very cheaply on Amazon.co.uk, mine was about €6 post included. I don't know about other Amazon sites or countries, though. I actually have the original "Gold" edition of Alpha Centauri but it doesn't work on my Vista PC.

Thanks for the information about UK availability. Regarding Vista compatibility: Although some players have reported problems running the game on Vista, it should be possible to get it working. If you're interested, please start a new thread. Be sure to mention:

* Whether or not the installation succeeds,
* the exact text of any error messages,
* whether or not you're fully patched (assuming that the installation worked), and
* any other information that might be helpful.

So, it seems that a securRom free version of this game is not available at a reasonable price?

You can look for either the Planetary Pack or the Laptop Collection. Both contain SMAC and SMAX without secuRom. The price for both has come down, probably due to the Sold-Out release (which does have secuRom). However, look out for vendors that advertise one product, but are really selling the Sold-Out version.

Thank you Petek, I have only started looking through the AC forum recently (rush of nostalgia) and noticed how helpful you've been in this regard. However my Complete Collection is in the post, and I have to give the original back to my friend - who loaned me it 9 years ago. ;)

does any of you happen to know which version of Securom comes with the Sold-Out release? if it's version seven then it is theoretically possible that you can at least remove Securom from your computer in case of uninstalling SMAC/X.
