I don't play without it.- mostly due to a lack of patience.

I haven't played a game without it since getting PtW.

I think that it is useful if you are playing on a large/huge map. It makes it quicker to research and quicker to expand your initial beginning game.
The only real difference that I think that it makes is that it cuts down on the wait time when building unit, improvements etc so it makes for a quicker game.

i once accidentally clicked on accelerated production. i was wondering how i was getting techs so fast and started colonizing indonesia and africa before 1 AD. i was rather rich though for having maybe 6 core cities

I use Accelerated Production. Whats the point in taking forever to play a game when you can use AP and get it done much faster?

The problem with AP is that although it doubles production, unit movement remains the same. This means that your units become obsolete twice as fast, often being outdated before they have time to reach their target. This is especially apparent on higher difficulty levels (where the tech rate is faster) and on large maps (where the distances are greater).

If you do play with AP though, DaveMcW's AP mod is a must. AP out-of-the-box is terribly unbalanced.

This is interesting. I hadn't expected so many "Yes" answers.

I don't care much about modern armour in 1000ac, but I think the balance between city growth and production gets destroyed with AP. Between each settler you can build three to five archers, depending on the terrain... AP is not for me, at least.

I only EVER use in PBEM to try to speed these up a bit, never considered it for any other multiplayer or single player and never will use it.
Dislike in PBEM but does mean I can finish a game quickly in comparison and not get bored with it.

I use to play AP alot... and got VERY good at it, but some people talked me into playing reg civ and I play that now.
