This thread has been started too discuss acceptable reasons to call off a turn chat.
Here are a few I would like to see:

Lack of Citizen Input
None/no citizens never happened before, but just the DP playing would go against the way of democracy

Those are the only two I can think of.... I am still quite worked up from a mouse and pencil encident.

I disagree. If the instructions on the Forum are well planned the chat should go as far as possible. The lack of chat participants doesn't really matter when all the DP is doing is what's laid out in the instruction thread.

I believe it is actually in the constitution that the leaders are supposed to make all decisions during times of low participation.

My purpose is ensuring there are a few participants is to increase input. I would feel in unethical to carry on without anyone watching.

The civ2 demogame has gotten by without turn chats at all...

I believe the game should depend on the forums, not the chatroom. After all, the forums are why we are here. I like how TC's are ended currently, at the DP's discretion. While I very much struggled with accepting that at first, I have learned the hard way why it needs to be so.

I'm not sure if I understand the first post. Are we discussing "acceptable" reasons for the DP to end the TC? Both seem "acceptable" in terms of reasons why I would "accept" the DP's decision to end the chat. Or did Strider mean something else?

At this point in the Demogame the President is allowing the opportunity for anyone that feels inspired enough, to a attend any t/c. With this option alvailable to all, I would say we'd have to throw the item listed in post 1 out. Low participation by Leaders or citizens at a t/c should not be a reason to call the chat off.

1, The low participation just shows the President the level of concern by Leaders and citizens.
2. With all the instuctions and fore-seen decisions laid out in the t/c Instruction thread, low involvement level of Leaders/citizens shouldn't really cripple that t/c.

I think the laws that allow the ending of the TC at the leaders discretion are correct, and should be left alone.

I myself would end a turnchat when something large and unplannable happened. For example, I did have a one turn chat when we got all of the techs from the Library. We received way more than anybody had guessed we might (including myself) and the large number of possible tech trades were unplanned for.

I don't think a chat should be ended when something happens that should have been planned for happens. That invites laziness on the Forum side.

I agree with you in the first part Shaitan, but not the second.

By some views (your own included I think) I "SHOULD" create concise plans for Defence against numerous foes, instead of seting up a general defense in an attempt to cover all likely hoods. If American declared war against us in the middle of the next turn chat I'd want it to be brought back to the forums, so I could possibly re-distribute units to meet that specific threat and discuss it with the citizenry. But saying "If America attacks us move these units here and garrison this mountain and attack these units which will approach with these units." seems to be going a little too far ahead, and demands alot of unneeded work on my part, IMHO. If something that wasn't predicted happens with vast concequences, such as a new war, I would want the t/c to be ended. Thinks like demands from other nations, which can't be saved and posted do need to have standards in place, not to mention, it's one of the DP's decisions which will need to be reviewed later.
