So I have this problem on my steam account where I do what it says to do but it won't give me the achievement. I also have this problem where I occasionally get achievements that I didn't actually do...but I get it anyway...you know...for the lolz I guess.

Before we go on I want to preface this by saying: I legitimately want help with this. I am not in the habit of griping for no reason and this is really bugging me.

Case in point:
I played a whole game as a super-tall Venice, purposely not using their UA at all to puppet anything and avoiding peace deals involving cities. I win diplomatically on a BNW game after sinking hours into the effort and it won't give me the "One to Rule them All" achievement. I reloaded and won again. Still nothing. In fact it gave me nothing for this win even though it was my first diplo win (another achievement) and first time winning as Venice. Has anyone seen this problem?

It also says I have not won as India, culturally, or on immortal even though I won a game as india, culturally, on immortal exactly. I haven't tried reloading that one, but it was back when I had G&K if that makes a difference. I won another game as Greece with BNW's new requirements for Cultural victory and it still didn't give me the achievement. I'm pretty frustrated about this one.

I also won with the Aztecs in the BNW scenario but it still says I haven't won with the Aztecs or BNW scenario.

Another time, I won as Attila on the Fall of Rome Scenario and got spammed with like 3 or 4 new achievements including random ones like: won on a huge map, won conquest on a huge map! Even though it was definitely not a huge map (about the size of standard) and I had only captured 2 capitals: Constantinople and the Persian one. I didn't own Rome--wasn't even close to it as I was focusing on wiping out the East. It gave it to me anyway. I had destroyed about 1/2 of the world's cities if not more though...it was a fun, rampaging game.

So what is up? Obviously no one can verify this as you don't have my steam account but I found this really odd. Does this happen when you are playing offline in steam? I don't see why it should matter but I often do...and has anyone else had this much trouble with seemingly simple Civ achievements? At first I thought they were somehow turned off, but I just got 2 more random ones recently...they were actually legit so it seems it sometimes works.

please help!

Do you use mods ? If you do, that prevents achievments from working.

I think they also don't work if you play offline.

thanks for your response. I have not used a mod, but for some reason the achievement "use a mod" popped up on my Mayan Playthrough. I was using a downloaded save start--does that sometimes recruit mods for itself it it had one on creation?

Doubtful, because playing a saved game with mod requires you go to the mod section of civ to load the save.

You need the India to get the "To Rule Them All".

None of the DLC, G&K or BNW civs count towards that rule unless I'm mixing up my achievements

Is that the one to play as every leader?

If for any reason your steam account went offline achievements auto-disable until you are re-united with the internet connection.

In case you don't get achievements but are aiming towards them SAVE the game a turn before your win, then, if you didn't get the achievements double check to see if you have internet, reload, and win the game :)

Actually I'm thinking you may have to select OCC before the game starts in the advanced options to get the achievement.

You only have to do this once; I got mine back in the days of Vanilla as India with OCC selected after I found out the hard way that having a puppet made me ineligible for it.

oh okay! I did not know that thanks Oz! I saved most of them somewhere near the end if not the last turn so I'll reload and try that. I appreciate the advice guys! :)

thanks so much guys! I just reloaded two of my games with internet connection and raked in 10 achievements! Way more than I thought I'd gotten! I wonder how many I've missed along the way. does it still count wonders and things for the amount ones?

Got 7 off the Venice game, including one to rule them all, so suffering through with one super-city wasn't a waste after all! :)

I had «one to rule them all» in a SV because Lyon and Orleans were conquest by AI one turn before I launch my spaceship.

To win a conquest game, you need to be the last civ to have its original capital. So, if you conquer two caps and this civs conquer other caps, you win. The bulb information when a cap is taken is not «AI get this town» but «AI lost is capital».

This is not true any more since BNW. You need all civilizations' original capitals to win conquest.

Regarding the acheivements which require to build all of the Wonders, built all units etc. that originated in Vanilla like the other achievement it only applies to units from the vanilla game (and I'd recommend going back and playing Vanilla games, especially since with BNW United Nations was deleted).
