I'm playing Civ 5 with no DLC aside from Wonders of the Ancient World. I have observed unusual aspects related to leader titles that you obtain from policy trees. Typically, as the wiki says, you gain titles from the most policies you have adopted from a tree, permanently gain a title based on the first policy tree you have finished.
Finishing Tradition -> the title 'Lord'.
Finishing Liberty -> the title 'Consul'.
Finishing Honor -> the title 'The Great'.
Finishing Piety -> the title 'Pious'.
Finishing Patronage -> the title 'The Enlightened'.
And so on.
Now, while playing as Rome, I finished the Honor tree first, and got the title 'The Great'. Simple enough, right? Well, fast forward to when I could get to adopt another policy and I finished the liberty tree next, and get this, I get the title 'Consul'. Weird, I finished the honor tree so I should be stuck with 'The Great' as my title for the rest of the game. I then completed piety, and my title is still 'Consul'. Sometimes, it switches to 'The Terrible' based off the autocracy policy tree, but later turns to 'Consul' once again.
It gets even stranger when playing as Greece, where I finished the patronage tree first, I should be stuck with 'The Enlightened' title, but nope. I now have the 'Doge' title from my commerce tree, even though I am once policy short from ever finishing this tree.
I know this seems like a nothingburger, but I am still bothered by this. Why can't titles stick to you permanently as the wiki says? Why does it have to be like this?
