Activation Key too short

Hi all. I just bought Gods & Kings in disc form and am currently trying to install it. I've gotten up to the part where Steam asks for the activation code. I found one on the back of the game manual, the only problem is that it is 2 sections too short. Steam is asking for 5, 5 character sections whereas the manual only has 3, 5 character sections. Anyone know what's going on here?

Mine was also a short one, only 3 sections and it worked perfectly fine. Just fill it in and submit it and Steam should say that its successful.

Hi there.

I have the three block activation key too. The instillation keeps returning saying that the key is wrong.

Tried switching the I/L/1 and 0/O in case I got them wrong. Also restarted my computer.

Can't get it to work.

EDIT: 2K have posted about the activation key.

Have you double checked under the DLC to see if it is there? If it is there and you keep trying the same key, it will not work any more, and will keep giving you the same error.

Where can you find the DLC?

Probably such a stupid question but I'm not really that clued up, just a massive Civ fan.

Gutted the key wont work. I have emailed Steam support. I'll update when they get back to me.

To find the DLC, right click on the name of the game in the list of games in your library and select properties. There will be a DLC tab that lists all the DLC you have.

It's not on my list of games.

Because I couldn't install it perhaps?

I've just received my gods and kings DVD from amazon and the key (also in AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC) doesn't work on steam. I'm stuck with the installation.

Hi there.
EDIT: 2K have posted about the activation key.

A 3 block key should work according to 2K. I've also ordered from Amazon but haven't received it yet so I too may well get a 3 block key, in which case I'll post if it works or not.

Those for whom it didn't work - have you tried using a different set of blocks eg: the last 3 blocks rather than the first 3?

I said I would report back, just installed the game (it had arrived at my delivery address this morning) with no problem. Ran the setup off the disc, entered the 3 block code when requested in the first 3 of the 5 blocks which activated successfully and then it automatically installed from the disc. I had steam running before inserted the disc to install.

Success!!!

As a poster suggested I tried to activate the code on directly on steam rather than by running the disk.

I went on Steam and clicked add game at the bottom left of the library.

I put the code in once and it didn't work. Then I tried it again in case I got it wrong; this time it worked.

Currently 10% of my way into the installation.

I did tried to put the key in the 3 last blocks but it did not work. I also tried to install directly via steam by "adding a new product". It did not work. I will try again now maybe they updated something in the database...

it worked ! yeah great, just the day my girlfriend left the house for 4 days of holidays.
