Adding AIs to Multiplayer game?

Is there really no option to add AIs to multiplayer games like you can in singleplayer games? I know you can change the mapsize, which increases the number, but I'm talking about actually adding AIs to a certain map (and not just city-states).

If I am not mistaken, are there mods that allow this? Or is there a way to code this into the game files? Honestly, I love Civ 5, but this is by far my BIGGEST pet peeve in the game...

Moderator Action: Moved to MP.

Should be. Each selected empire has an option of being Human or AI on the specific empire (at least in Hotseat - been a while since I played actual MP so not sure on that but I would suspect you could choose Open or AI or start the game early and open slots be AI).

I agree. I never play with the default number of AIs, they are so spread out the game will invariably be incredibly boring. I like playing hotseat with my friend and we always have to play with far too few AIs.

He's talking about increasing the number of civs in the game, not how to assign them to AI control

and no. yet another thing missing from mp

Ah, gotcha.

Actually there is a really easy way to this.

It is described here

All it involves is changing a number for each map size. Just make a copy of the file first if your worried.

I can confirm this works fine in multiplayer. 22 is the max allowable.

Also remember if your playing G&K the file will be in a slightly different folder - think its expansion or something

I went into the "CIV5Worlds.xml" file exactly like you said, and when I replace the number, it has no effect when I go back into the multiplayer start-up screen. The default number of CIVs doesn't change and I still cannot add more AI to a new game.

How do I fix this? I've tried closing Civ5 and reopening, restarting the computer, but even though it's always saved in the xml file, when I go to start a new multiplayer game, it's like I never changed the xml file! Playing a small map with 6 civs is *so* boring!!! Am I tweaking the wrong file? I have the expansion pack and went into "assets/DLC/Expansion/Gameplay/XML/GameInfo". Is there another file I have to change too?
