Adding new promotions

Hi, I am very new to modding so please forgive any silly questions.

I would like to add in new promotions for units into vanilla Civ 5. Can anyone walk me through the process, perhaps with a sample code for one? I'm not sure what all needs to be done to get it to work and look proper.

I've figured out how to add basic promotions for player use.

I still have no idea how to have the A.I. to use new promotions. I'm guessing artwork can be added via ModBuddy.
