Howdy all,

I just got civ3 like 2 weeks ago still playing on chieftain or warlord....but the thing is before time runs out I ALWAYS am like still in the industrial age - as are my oppenents, wut are ways 2 speed things up and actually end up in modern ages quicker??

You probably aren't trading techs enough, especially at the outset of the game.

Also, on lower difficulties the AI researches slower. I think this is only a big problem on Chieftan level though.

Yeah, on chieftan and warlord, the AI gets penaltys to their growth, production, and science. The end result is that they research very slow. So you have to do most of the research yourself. Build roads everywhere you have people working. Grow your cities large, and keep everyone happy with religion and luxuries. Use the budget slider to put science as high as you can without going broke. If an AI ever gets a tech you don't have, trade for it or buy it. Build a Forbidden Palace to reduce corruption in the cities around it. Switch to republic or democracy since they give extra trade and lower corruption. And build libraries and universities in many of your cities.

If you've been winning on the lower difficulties, I'd say to move up to regent, and the AIs will reseach well and make good trading partners.
