Advice needed for Vox

I've been playing CBO\Vox for 200 hours on Prince difficulty, Huge map, Strategic balance, Standard speed with 16 civ's and 20 CS but I still cannot get any better, I've tried every strategy I can think of, tried looking at guides in the Strategy section for pointers in the right direction but no matter what I do or try it seems the AI's are bs, they always have a massive permanent army, have all buildings and all improvements with a crap load of cities and nothing ever goes wrong for them besides war and their own internal struggles with other AI, while I struggle making a army not even half the size of the average AI player, I can barely produce buildings when I need them, even though I assign specialists when needed and make sure to choose my tile improvements carefully and so on.

I also try not to go to war as much as possible and attempt to build a economy and infrastructure before considering a army and always go wide when I can following the 4 cities with a trade route and some roads by turn 100 way of playing.

Its just seems in my eyes and most of the games I've played the AI bonuses become out of control to the point where I fall behind by 2 eras in the end and I've tried literally everything to get better.

I don't mind playing and losing but its very frustrating to never be able to get ahead of the AI no matter what I try in the later game when usually my early game is until classical era is great.

Any tips or is my play style just crap for Vox?

How would we even know what your play-style is like? You've not explained specific, only broad term stuff like 'Assign specialists' 'choose tile improvements' and 'attempt to build a economy and infrastructure'. Other than that you've been complaining about the AI getting bonuses and being 'bs'.

As much as I would love to give you a general rundown on how to play the game, it would take forever since I have absolutely no idea what you're doing wrong and what you're doing right. So instead I'm just going to tell you to lower the difficulty, I mean that's what the difficulty setting is there for.

Get rid of your vanilla playstyle. Lower difficulty even more if you need it. I was playing at chieftain for a while, until I understood how things work.
